My daughter sent me a copy of a twitter thread that claimed that she called Scientology "a universal creed and one that speaks to all people everywhere." This was in 2010 at a ribbon cutting ceremony for a Scientology church. Sorry I do not know how to copy the link. It was a twitter post made by Alex Thompson. Does anyone know anything about this? If she said such a thing and she is the selected VP I can already predict the ads prepared by the right wing that will call her a "cult member", even if she is not. The RWNJ do not care about the truth. This could impact the vote of moderate voters. I hope it was a comment taken out of context, but I was curious if anyone else heard this. Sorry if this has already been addressed in a previous post.

Way too easy to weaponize that crap. I hope the Biden campaign is smarter than that.

(1,076 posts)Hopefully they will be prepared to deal with this if they do choose her. I personally think Kamala or Susan Rice are better choices.

Whether she supports the Hubbard-bots or not, this is a liability.

What makes Scientology particularly dangerous is the nastiness they employ to keep members and fight critics.

(29,915 posts)Though Scientology is big in the LA area and she just appeared at a ribbon cutting ceremony still bothers me more than that.
The US allies with Saudi Arabia so I don't lose my mind over Cuba.

(256 posts)I buy her explanation regarding the Scientology speech, as a politician she was trying to find something she could praise about her constituents. But the Cuba thing is a dream come true for Republicans, a VP who worked for the Cuban Revolution.
Susan Rice is the best choice, but it will probably be Harris that gets the nod.

(29,915 posts)I think a bigger problem than the Cuban thing is the fact US allies with Saudi Arabia. Biden indicated during a debate that he would end it so I hope he keeps his word.
