https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/redsox/2020/08/01/eduardo-rodriguez-shut-down-season-myocarditis-covid-19-recovery/5564760002bThe Red Soxs already thin pitching rotation suffered another setback on Saturday when Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom announced that left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez is done for the season.
Rodriguez, 27, had tested positive for the coronavirus before the start of Bostons summer camp. He was cleared to return to team workouts on July 18, but had not been activated because he developed myocarditis a heart condition after recovering from COVID-19.
We are confident that hes going to make a full recovery, and that his long term prognosis is excellent, Bloom said prior to Bostons game against the Yankees in the Bronx.
Bloom noted that Rodriguezs heart is functioning normally and that he will return to the team facilities in Florida and Boston as needed for checkups. But, he said, there isnt enough time left this season to ramp him back up to game shape.

I don't think it much matters what Trout does, the league's days are numbered regardless.

(25,983 posts)Sitting out this season to return (hopefully) next year in good health makes so much more sense than potentially losing their ability to play at a pro level ever again, or even dying.
