Red Sox pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez out for the season with post-COVID-19 heart condition

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/redsox/2020/08/01/eduardo-rodriguez-shut-down-season-myocarditis-covid-19-recovery/5564760002b

The Red Sox’s already thin pitching rotation suffered another setback on Saturday when Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom announced that left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez is done for the season.

Rodriguez, 27, had tested positive for the coronavirus before the start of Boston’s summer camp. He was cleared to return to team workouts on July 18, but had not been activated because he developed myocarditis — a heart condition — after recovering from COVID-19.

“We are confident that he’s going to make a full recovery, and that his long term prognosis is excellent,” Bloom said prior to Boston’s game against the Yankees in the Bronx.

Bloom noted that Rodriguez’s heart is functioning normally and that he will return to the team facilities in Florida and Boston as needed for checkups. But, he said, there isn’t enough time left this season to ramp him back up to game shape.

He's a nice talent, I really hope he's able to recovery. I'm shocked that MLB hasn't shut down the season yet with so many players and staff being hit with the virus.

The Angels are 3-6, sucking it up as usual.

I don't think it much matters what Trout does, the league's days are numbered regardless.

maybe it'll start to sink in.
I just wish it didn't take that for us to start catching up to the science-accepting world outside of the continental U.S.

Sitting out this season to return (hopefully) next year in good health makes so much more sense than potentially losing their ability to play at a pro level ever again, or even dying.
