This makes no sense. Georgia's governor is extending the emergency declaration as Covid continues to spread throughout Georgia, but he also expressly bars local governments from requiring masks, just to give the finger to Atlanta's mayor.

The executive order he signed Friday also maintains a series of safety guidelines for restaurants and other businesses that have been in place for months as Georgia struggles with a rising number of coronavirus cases. It expires on Aug. 15.
Published late Friday, just hours before a previous order was set to lapse, Kemps new rules are laced with language aimed at bolstering the states legal case. One section emphasizes the need for a statewide response to prevent confusion, while another details the broad emergency powers state lawmakers granted Kemp earlier this year.
While the governor has long restricted local governments from taking tougher steps than the state, he signed rules in mid-July that for the first time specified that cities and counties couldnt mandate masks. Fridays order sent a sharp signal that hes not relenting on that stance.

Hes killing my fellow Georgians

(543 posts)He stole the election for governor when, as secretary of state, he wouldn't allow 55,000 voter registrations, which would mostly have gone to the Democratic candidate, Stacey Abrams.
Just thinking about him not only raises my blood pressure but also makes my scalp crawl.

(21,615 posts)Georgia is bordered by FL, AL, NC, and SC. I-75 runs right through the middle of the state from TN to FL. Only AL has a mask mandate. K-12 Schools and colleges are opening throughout this month.
We are in big trouble.
