The Trump administration is awarding more than $35 million in Justice Department grants

The Trump administration is awarding more than $35 million in Justice Department grants to organizations that provide safe housing for survivors of human trafficking.

OK, why NOW? Could this have anything to do with Maxwell being in jail, and her papers released?

Seriously? The man has never done a decent thing in his life. What in the world could the purpose be for this?

That’s really not very much nationwide.

Trafficking is a horrible situation. Let’s be clear about that.

Zero. And you are right, it's a paltry amount.

I am aware that trafficking is horrifying.

Please provide a link to the grant opportunity.
I do development work and remember researching grants offered under VAWA. What you described sounds like one of those grants. If it is, there's nothing new about it. My guess is that less money is available than in earlier years, based on my experience with a different grant that we seek biannually.
