One in 3 Americans would refuse an FDA-approved coronavirus vaccine even if it were offered at no cost, a new Gallup poll released Friday found.
The results, based on survey conducted between July 20 and Aug. 2, found that 65% of respondents said they would accept the offer and get themselves vaccinated while 35% said they would not.
The new poll falls in line with previous Gallup findings suggesting political party preference plays a strong role in Americans views on COVID-19.
Eighty-one percent of Democrats would be willing to get vaccinated immediately with a free, FDA-approved vaccine, the poll found, compared with 59% of independents and 47% of Republicans.

If Republican's want to die that's their business. I'm just skeptical about any vaccine that comes out before Nov. 3.

(12,011 posts)A lot of people have legitimate concerns about whether the Trump FDA will take shortcuts to approve a vaccine before the election without following the usual rigorous process for testing whether a new drug is safe before approving it. For people who are high risk of complications or death from coronavirus that might be a risk worth taking, but for others it probably makes sense to wait and see if any undisclosed side effects are discovered or if a safer alternative comes along. Personally, I wouldn't be comfortable taking a vaccine that is approved by the FDA unless it's also approved by at least a few other western governments with similar vetting processes.

(109,260 posts)If it's Trump and it's before the election, the answer is hell no. If, on the other hand, we elect a leader who actually listens to science, and not quacks who believe in alien DNA and demon sex, and says that it's safe and effective, then yes absolutely!

They're a bunch of idiots and selfish pricks, nonetheless!

(109,260 posts)I'm serious. If you don't get vaccinated, it should be immediate disqualification for employment, school, travel, credit applications, etc. Because you're not just putting yourself in danger, you're putting everyone in danger. Dangerous diseases are nothing to fuck with, as we have witnessed the last few months.

(15,538 posts)Maybe lack of insurance coverage for those diseases? I don't know, but the behavior is indeed dangerous to everyone!
Again, that's if there's an effective and safe vaccine that's actually developed. I understand qualms about treatments that don't work well.
