I am a retired postal manager

I managed large metropolitan area operations overseeing more than 150 employees daily and delivering mail to tens of thousands of customers.

I spent countless sleepless nights and 12-hour-plus workdays getting the mail out in the face of incessant obstacles. Ultimately, daily I met the goal on schedule and reliably living by our motto: Every piece every day.

To hear that Trump’s guy has dismantled in just two months what I and many devoted decades to is alarming. After seeing my own mail slow down I talked to former coworkers/friends. In TX, a postmaster says her boss calls Trump’s guy Dejoy, “a business man”. A former supervisor I talked to parrots the same phrase. Many have no idea of the political ramifications of this appointment.

(The USPS is a cash cow. If destroyed, billions have been set aside 75 years in advance of retirements of 500,000 employees. This could easily fall into Republican hands. Dejoy just added $10 billion more debt in the last two weeks making them even more vulnerable and destroying one of the largest unions in America if destruction succeeds.)

Then, I read that million-dollar machines that sort 36,000 pieces of mail per hour are being turned off now in favor of manual labor. And I am floored. It’s like a bank removing all ATMS and insisting that all money be counted by hand. It’s not hard to see that cutting down automation will increase the manual workload a hundred fold—but simultaneously cutting overtime reduces the man hours needed for the quadrupled manual workload. There’s not enough square footage to house the impending backup of mail that will result from these “business“ decisions.

I have spent most of the year telling everybody I know to plan to vote by mail — until May when I first heard about Trump’s appointment.

I will not be voting by mail now. It’s a huge loss of revenue for the Postal Service if I, and many others don’t vote by mail. I don’t want to hurt the Postal Service but I care more about not hurting America with a too-risky vote. I do suggest, however, continuing to patronize them in every possible way whether you mail your vote or not.

All I know is that I hope that we can quickly regroup and rethink how we plan to GOTV under these new circumstances.

so they can be delivered to the Democratic campaign office or election office? It just has to be a designated drop off point. These are extraordinary times calling for extraordinary measures. Many would probably jump at the chance to help with this.

for ballots only under these circumstances, free, no stamps needed, and spread around town in popular areas. The locked boxes of ballots would be delivered directly to the authorities that can assure our votes will be counted. I'm convinced this can be done, but we have to start now. There are many people out of work who would be happy to man the boxes and drive them to the correct offices to assure their vote to oust Drumpf is counted. These would have to be registered democrats. And a buddy system would have to be used for confirmation of following proper procedures. They can even be armed if necessary. It doesn't have to be obvious. Don't heavily advertise it. Word of mouth is the best way anyway.

DeJoy is the first postmaster in two decades without prior experience in the United States Postal Service.[14] DeJoy's appointment was controversial because DeJoy and his wife have assets between $30.1 million and $75.3 million in USPS competitors or contractors, such as UPS and trucking company J.B. Hunt.[15][16]

if the guy is an ayn randian POS fascist asshole ayn randian dittohead who has been listening to limbaugh for 30 years attacking the USPS to defund and privatize the USPS to help UPS, FED EX, and the COC destroy every union then maybe show him there are consequences?

they might just buy another stock, but a lot of their friends might not like it

Sat Aug 8, 2020, 05:37 PM

They've been chipping away at American institutions bit by bit every time a Republican is president. The GOP has two goals: (1) transfer as money from the lower 98% of taxpayers (and thereby claim there's not enough money in the treasury for anything but military weaponry, which is a bottomless pit) to the top 2%; and (2) roll back the governmental structure to June 20. 1788. This was the day before the Constitution became the official framework of the government of the United States of America when New Hampshire became the ninth of 13 states to ratify it.

Until that day the United States could take any shape the rich white men in the Continental Congress could pressure the other members to accept their warped version of the document. First of all, eliminate the Bill of Rights and the ability to amend the document.

Article 1, Section1 would state: "The ownership of a firearm or weapon of any size is sacrosanct.

Article 1, Section2: The official religion of the United States is Christianiy. The official language of the country is English.

Article 1, Section 2a: The purpose of the United States is to make a profit.

Artice1, Section 3: A citizen is defined as a white land owning male. Only citizens may vote.

Article 2, Section 1. The government will be divided into two entities: (1) An Executive Branch, which has unlimited powers, and (2) a Legislative Branch, whose purpose is to collect taxes and make the revenues available to the Executive Branch, as directed.

Article 3, Section 1. No person or entity may criticize or investigate any political body, nor elected or appointed person for fear of fines and imprisonment.

Article 3, Section 2. Any person attempting to enter the country illegally shall be summarily executed.

Article 3, Section 3. Any public gathering for non-patriotic purposes shall be considered a terrorist activity, and lethal force is authorized to disperse and dominate such activity.

Article 4. The president will hold his position for life.

As Benjamin Franklin said when asked what kind of government had been created, he simply replied, "We're fucked."

...and went about eliminating opposition within the party to their agenda.

After all, who leads the "Rockefeller Republican" faction these days? Nobody. It's gone and has no successors. It was wiped out. Even GOP "moderates" are inclined to jeer at the RRs and treat them as quislings for accepting the basic New Deal framework, even in the more limited form they (the RRs) preferred.

They are relentless in pushing an absolutist agenda. When they can, they grab with both hands and push as far as they can get even with the thinnest of margins. When they lose that margin, they go on full defense and battle to the death over every inch of ground, policywise. And they have billionaire backers and a "leaderless" media machine to help them.

It's no wpnder so many of them admire the Bolsheviks. Not ideology, of course, but the tactics and strategy. Take over the institutions and purge dissenters and backsliders.

and giving POC an opportunity for wage parity.

The GOP has been chipping away at it for 15 years. The end goals for them are 1) destroying a large public union whose members vote mostly Dem, and 2) letting their cronies get their hands on the pension funds that they've been fattening like a Thanksgiving turkey waiting for this day to come.

I hope there's something left to salvage among the rubble when Biden takes over. And I also hope it's one of his priorities and not kicked down the road like it has been for far too long.

Be prepared. Every voter who can, must vote.

The pukes here in Michigan have gamed the system for a long time. In my town, they announced new polling places days before the primary. The card arrived the day before the election.

Early voting has been extended an extra six days to begin on Oct. 13. My husband and I are both over 65 so signed up to vote by mail in the primary run-off. But the post office difficulties are tricky.

The League of Women Voters of Texas strongly advocates for voting by mail if at all possible (the president is a public health nurse) and joined an unsuccessful lawsuit to expand mail-in voting to every voter.

So far they continue to advocate voting by mail. But we are all following the problems with the post office. I'd heard about the sorting machines being ordered turned off before but thought surely that's an anomaly.

My husband wants to go back to voting in person, going early at an off time. I follow Jenny Cohn on Twitter. She believes one desired impact of the uncertainty about the mail is to cause more to vote in person. Russian activities in 2016 shows they may have penetrated many electronic voting systems. She recommends the paper trail of voting by mail.

If we do that but don't want to put our ballot in the mail, we'd have to drive the ballots to the county seat to the Elections Administrators office, go through security, and drop them off during their 8-5 business hours. Can't deliver to polling places or drop off boxes anywhere.

I was surprised this week when I received an Absentee Ballot Request form for the Nov. 3 election. I have never voted by mail and did not request any ballot form. I'm currently in a purple state and the governor is a Trump buttkisser. Maybe I'm too paranoid but it raised my suspicion that pushing mail-in ballots and then slowing down the mail may be a voter suppression scheme. I suppose the Dumpsters could be trying to use reverse psychology or something, presuming that if Dumpy hates mail-in ballots then a lot of people who don't like him will go out of their way to use them--and their votes won't get counted.

Every January to anyone who can be identified as a Democrat. This is our 4th election cycle doing this and it has increased our mail in ballot numbers.

Kentucky sent vote by mail applications to every registered voter before their primary in July. They had the highest mail in numbers they have ever had. In fact the turnout in that primary was the 2nd highest they have ever had for a primary.

Is it possible your state is sending VBM applications to everyone who isn't already using them so they can receive the ballot & not need to vote in person? This would relieve folks who do not want to risk the virus from having to go to the polls and reduce the number of election workers needed

It could be on the level and nonpartisan. The form has no mention of any political party.

Like so many others I'm deeply concerned when shortly before an election a desperate con man wannabe dictator-for-life and his toadies start monkeying with a core institution that plays an important role in the balloting that decides the outcome. Potentially making things even worse is that one of his buttkissers is squatting in the governor's mansion and may have some control over ballots.

I'd like to know how many Republican voters received the unsolicited ballot request form. If mainly Democratic voters received them then my suspicion of targeted suppression of mail-in ballots is probably not going to quietly fade away.

Wrap your head around that. The postal service was a national institution before the United Stated even existed as an independent nation. It has been a source of pride and a model of efficiency for centuries. It had endured through every war, ever recession, a great depression, and numerous pandemics and natural disasters. That all ended this year because of one feckless pestilent dim-witted child who had to politicize and sabotage it in a vain attempt to alter his zero chances at being re-elected.

you cannot vote in person. So, if your requested ballot doesn’t arrive in time to be returned in person, no less mailed, you can’t vote. It’s made me rethink my voting plan and make adjustments to my husband’s in California. I think I will vote early in order to avoid USPS. My husband is a permanent vote-by-mail voter in California. Because he works from home in New Mexico due to COVID, we’ll Fedex overnight his unvoted ballot to NM, he’ll vote, we'll Fedex overnight it to his daughter in California for return to our City Clerk’s office. That, or knee replacement or not, he’ll go to our NM MVD and become a NM resident.

I want DeJoy prosecuted.

We have for about ten years now. But we have the option of dropping it off at the County Clerk's office (which is what we do), and we get email that it has been counted. Works great...as long as the ballot arrives in the mail.

I agree that DeJoy should be prosecuted. And the orange menace should be exiled to Russia with his whole family.

In other posts I've mentioned that my husband gets his medicines from the VA via mail. At least twice in the past couple of months his prescriptions have not arrived when expected and he was within a day or two of being out of meds. He called the VA and after some phone tag was able to go to the facility in person to get enough to tide him over until the usual refill arrived. We are lucky in that we only live 5 miles from the VA, so it's not a big problem for him. But there are so many others that live dozens or far more away and don't have that option to just run over and pick the drugs up.

And because I have an app that allows mail tracking, I can see that the order is sitting at 'a facility in LA' for days and days before it starts moving on it's way towards us again. Delivery used to be within a few days of the order going in. So many people are getting screwed by this new scheme, and not just by being inconvenienced, some of these are life and death medications that are needed.

Louis DeJoy and his wife, Aldona Wos, whom Trump has nominated to become ambassador to Canada, own between $30.1 million and $75.3 million of assets in competitors to the USPS. He owns a lot of stock in UPS and other delivery services.

Trump, shortly after taking office called for the privatization of the USPS.

Postal workers possibly not knowing of the political motivations behind such? Just pawns in the pResident’s sick game?

I’m going to print out some loud-assed postcards that approximately read:

Tell tRump to quit fiddling with the mail to steal the election.

On the flip side: Every postal worker that becomes ill or dies from COVID should sue tRump, postmaster dejoy, and any lawmaker that supports him for reckless endangerment.

That includes, you, _____________, for willfully enabling the pResident’s unlawful disregard for Americans’ lives, elections, and postal service.
