In most cases of at Sturgis you can't say die young and leave a good looking corpse.

(15,521 posts)Well, I'm just not a Sturgis kind of guy anyway. Last 'bike' I ever owned was a minibike when I was 15, but then my parents VERY wisely refused to allow me to get a motorcycle.
But look at this crowd. We're probably looking at at least 6,500 deaths just in this group, let alone the people they all infect. Probably more.
If you do the simple division, about 3.7% of the cases die. And, again according to the recent Indian study, if one COVID-positive person can infect an additional 46 people without social distancing or masks, as these people are, then it would take only 5,400 positive people in this group to infect the whole quarter million.
We could even be conservative and say that if only 75% of people will get the virus anyway, it would be around 185,000 people. Assuming the 3.7% morbidity rate, we can say that, FOR JUST THIS GROUP, around 6,800 will die.
It isn't just them, though, because after Sturgis, they will all go home, to their churches, to their stores, to their workplaces, and they will infect more people. Those people will infect yet more people, and so on.
The gift that keeps on giving, much like drug-resistant tertiary syphilis - but Trump's condition is a different conversation...

(14,814 posts)However, the picture wasn't really the point. Same amount of people there this year as in past years, without masks, so the meme I stole from FB is still ironically funny.

(54,849 posts)they had three quarters of a million in 2015
I am not a Sturgis expert, so there is that.
btw
all I did was use Google image search
took 5 seconds, so no great skill can I claim, lolol
cheers

(3,366 posts)misleading. There are plenty of photos from this years crowd to make the point that 250,000 people are likely to cause an outbreak.

(63,221 posts)there is nothing I hate more than out for lunch or at a cafe on a sunny, beautiful day enjoying my time with friends or family when a gang of cyclists comes riding through town (often vacation towns or resort areas) blaring their motors and obnoxiously disturbing the peace.
You have to completely put everything on hold until they are done with their pointless little attention whoring parades so you can finally socialize in peace again. What is it with these people? Why do they have to disturb the peace wherever they go? Nobody wants to hear them or see them. When they ride into these towns? It's just like a big "Fuck You" to everyone who lives or vacations there. What is the point of the noise? Do they really think it makes them cool?
Well, they aren't. They are selfish, obnoxious assholes. And I would bet that a majority of them are Trumpers.

(11,949 posts)But I know a couple of Harley riders and the pipe noise, according to them is because when they are in your blind spot will still probably hear them.
That said, I will not ever own one. The chances of being killed in an accident are over 40 times(not percentage) Greater than an accident in a vehicle. I road bikes some when I was young and feeling invincible but thats been over 35 years ago.
Have a nice evening.
