Which California politicians should be considered by Newsom?

(16,168 posts)Newsom won't have to do anything until after the BIDEN - HARRIS ticket wins in November.
But there are some very bright stars rising in California.

I also think Rep. Adam Schiff would be a great choice.

Lieu, Schiff, DeLeon (who I voted for against Feinstein). We have a lot of good options.

(11,113 posts)My brain was thinking East Asian/Pacific Islander.
There are lot of them in elective office, but none have managed statewide office just yet.
It's a thought. The nice part is, California's Democratic bench is deep. We have an embarrassment of riches on that front.

(10,583 posts)I was actually thinking that it would be good to finally have a Latino senator from California. Three names come to mind:
1) Xavier Becerra. Former member of Congress, currently the Attorney General of California.
2) Hilda Solis. Former member of Congress, former Secretary of Labor, currently on the LA County Board of Supervisors.
3) Alex Padilla. Secretary of State of California.

That is rather cool. Thanks for the correction.

(24,852 posts)Newsom gets to name a replacement when Kamala and Joe win in Nov. That replacement will have the upper hand in getting elected to the seat down the road. The seat is next up in 2022, IIRC.

Although Eric Swalwell, Ted Lieu, Katie Porter, Zoe Lofgran, and Linda Sanchez would also make excellent Senators.

(8,419 posts)Not sure when we had the last Dem Senator from SoCal. (Just looked, all the way back to the 70's) Had a Repub, Wilson back in the 80's.
So for fifty years, we have gone without a Senator from the region. A population that is greater than every other State (except for Texas)
In fact, fuck this shit, I want one of Wyoming's Senators added to our state. Coming for the Dakota's next.

(7,367 posts)...as Governor. And if he is eyeing the Senate, he's probably going to go after Fienstien's seat once she retires. Assuming of course he doesn't go for the White House, he's still young and has plenty of time to contemplate where he wants to go career wise.
Schiff would be good fit, he's been on the national stage a lot and shown he can easily handle it.
