(92,061 posts)I find it laughable that some people want to give others unsolicited advice, especially from those giving that advice who have a dismal record of "winning"

(92,061 posts)Needless to say, as you probably realize, Nader is not going to get a very positive reception here

(38,303 posts)Bernie Sanders has very similar flaws.
Both can be especially tone deaf about civil rights issues. They think these are mostly economic issues. Again and again they are "color blind," as are many of their supporters.
My mom used to use Nader as an example of someone who "worked within the system," especially when she was feeling alarmed about my own dumpster diving and other mischief. She saw Nader as a "successful" activist. I was just trouble, maybe like her own dad was trouble. (As a child my mom saw her dad beat up by the cops for protesting the internment of their Japanese neighbors.)
The problem is the system is broken, and everything Nader did merely postponed the final reckoning. He kept saving the system from itself, keeping the world safe for straight white guys, and here we are, first with George W. Bush, and now with Trump, with the system collapsing around us.
The Coronavirus is just a harbinger of things to come. Climate change, income disparities, and racial inequalities will bring worse. We will need competent leadership to simply survive as a Republic, let alone prosper.
With GWB and Trump we've experienced firsthand the damage venal incompetent leaders do.
With Obama we saw what a competent respected leader who understands civil rights issues can accomplish.
Biden and Harris are respected and competent leaders who clearly understand civil rights issues. As a straight white man, Biden didn't at first, but he has listened and learned.
AOC clearly understands civil rights issues.
I don't know what Nader has to offer any of them.

(13,168 posts)Nader helped put Dubya in office. Dubya stampeded the country into the Iraq War, destabilizing the ME. ISIS started as AQ in Iraq. ISIS promoted terror and spawned a refugee crisis. Resentment of refugees and ISIS terrorism fed nationalism and isolationism. Trump and Brexit, among other things, resulted.

(42,862 posts)He said there's not a dime's worth of difference between the Democrats and the GOP. He was repeating something that had also been claimed by Alabama's George Wallace. It's also something that was repeated (in many different ways) by another politician who has a history of denigrating Democrats and the Democratic party. It was wrong then, and it is wrong now.
I have nothing but the HIGHEST LEVEL OF CONTEMPT for anyone who makes such a claim. Those who have told this lie, and those who continue to tell this lie, can go fuck themselves!

(58,785 posts)in 2014-2016 but couldn't get him to return his calls. Deja vu all over again.
So unfair when he nevertheless nobly fought to defeat Hillary and shred the giant coattails so many other Democrats were being swept into office on. One would think he's earned some recognition for his contribution to that success.
And this is Nader this year, still flying to Sanders' defense against evil "dictator" Hillary:

Surely he's earned the courtesy of at least a polite brush-off note?
