With Trump trying to screw the Post Office, is anyone reconsidering and looking at voting in person?

(339 posts)We have a great system in NM. I will early vote in person. Multiple sites, multiple days. Would not be afraid to vote by mail as I did in the primary. Just vote early! PS. She was interviewed on NPR this morning.

This time it won't be a procrastination-related reason.

(11,686 posts)I will fill out my ballot and drop it in the box as soon as I am done. No waiting till even the next day. They have not stolen our boxes yet but I would drive to Seattle to get them in a box. If they steal the boxes I will take peoples ballots when they are done with them and take them to whatever box if they can't. I hate to say this but even if they are voting for trump I would help. I know it sucks but who am I to deny them the right that I am fighting for all of us to have.

(6,640 posts)And, we have already requested the ballots via mail. However, once we complete them they'll not be going back through the mail. Instead, we've decided we'll drive the our count BOE and place them into the drop box.
So, a slight deviation from the original plan.

(25,250 posts)I gave myself the extra time necessary to allow for the criminal obstruction of the mail. I intend to use either a drop box or hand delivery to the county elections office. I will not send my ballot through the mail and I strongly suggest you do likewise.

(11,704 posts)I usually voted early before. I mailed my ballot in the primary a few weeks ago.
Now I will drop it off in person to make sure it gets there.

(3,639 posts)if I were living in the US I would go vote in person. Broken glass, volcano, hurricane, plague, whatever. I would not take my chances with mail if I lived there.

(32,265 posts)this year might be different. I've also considered taking my absentee ballot directly to the County Clerk's office and dropping it off.

(15,771 posts)They stopped having live polling places last year, now we have the big silver boxes at grocery stores and the post office... I have often wondered if that was even "safe" or legit counted...

(13,582 posts)Well get our ballots in the mail about 45 days before the election. Its a 10 minute drive to the election office - so its super easy for us. Weve done this for the last five years.

(14,565 posts)I signed up for absentee in Florida beginning in 2018. It has worked well. Once you are on that list they keep coming until you change the preference.
I see no need to change. The ballots arrive early. I will mail immediately. The late cycle types are the ballots at risk.
Besides, my experiences at Florida early voting have not been nearly as positive as when I early voted in Nevada. The Nevada process was a breeze, inside shopping malls or countless convenient locations. In Florida I have gone to libraries and been immediately surrounded by right wing surrogates as soon as I parked. They converge immediately and attempt to give you material, plus shouting things. Even when you say no they'll often throw it at you anyway. I can just imagine what it will be like this year, without the former protections, which were not enforced anyway.
Then once inside the early voting site as my ballot was being scanned I had an old lady who was in charge of the precinct ranting to me about voter fraud. Seriously...and this woman is running things, in a Miami-Dade County early voting setup? That was 2016. I immediately decided to switch to absentee and am glad I did.

(589 posts)But in my case I take it to a PO that's right across the hall from the Clerk of Elections office. They will cancel the stamp w/ postmark and time and drop into a bin that is delivered within an hour. I trust that.
