We are talking about mail that goes from your city or town election person to you and back again.
We have a mailbox at post office for our town/city only mail and then other mail. That way, mail for our town/city is sorted locally rather than sent out of town to a regional sorting facility and then back to our town - which would delay delivery by a day or two.
I learned today my Dads mail goes from his little town in a swing state to a facility 40 minutes away and then back to his little town. Seems bizarre and inefficient to me - a letter takes 3 or 4 days to go a few miles.

(5,829 posts)because several years ago PO decided to close our local sorting facility as a cost cutting measure.
It lengthened delivery time by a day or two plus potential for more lost items.
In order to speed up and have more direct handling of my personal mail items, I rent a PO box to receive mail which often saves a day or two vs. delivery to my house and I drop off my mail at the PO rather than with the mail carrier to haul back esp. since our mail carrier often doesn't show up until 5pm or later which is too late to go out that day.

(12,733 posts)and all mail was trucked to Houston 100 miles away. This happened several years ago. We noticed delays and more damaged items since the change. This thing about removing drop boxes also started around that time. Not counting the ones at the post offices I think there are 3 total for Bryan/College Station, TX.
