Surely, we have enough wonderful Democrats to speak, like Beto. This doesnt make sense to me.

(15,067 posts)After we win in November, there will be absolute chaos with the economy in free fall and the virus still rampaging through our country. Kasich is positioning himself to be the "sane" republican who will ride in on his white horse and fix everything in 2024. He's just as toxic as all the other Republicans, just not as stupid and outwardly cruel.

(9,928 posts)Kasich is a fucking wolf in sheep's clothing. He knows how to pretend to sound reasonable but he is a rightwinger through and through and he would no more seek "unity" with Democrats if he had a good chance of being elected President than fly to the moon.

that he can one day be President.
No way should Kasich be allowed to speak @ the DNC .... I know the he can help in OH
meme but John's folksy "nice guy act" (BTW I know John ... haven't seen him in years)
covers up that he can be ruthless. His dad was a union mail carrier in McKee's Rocks, PA
but that hasn't stopped John from being anti union and and anti USPS too. He is also
a member of ALEC, a Fox News lie-person, and a Koch sucker too.
Hav
(5,969 posts)if that is indeed his reasoning. It's possible he might have ambitions but speaking at the Dem convention is a death-knell to winning the Repub primary and every other Repub contender will bash him for it relentlessly.
Likewise, Zell Miller would have had no chance had he run as a Dem after 2004.

(70,447 posts)Kasich is very good @ the spin and he might be able to sell the meme that removing Trump
was the right move in trying to protect and restore America.

(7,261 posts)him precious time at OUR convention again? Dems hate the guy and so do his fellow repukes.
Jesus this is a bad move. So we can appear "united"? That worked well for Obama didn't it. Where is our common sense???

I want Biden to demolish Trump and we need more than just progressives to do that.

Someone like Kasich could appeal to those republicans.

(8,419 posts)Will he have any impact on Republicans? Likely very small. That being said, he has the potential to switch more repukes than the net gain of having Beto, etc., speak.
But solidifying the "Indies" that is the key.
Some Indie (Ex REPUKE) is getting hammered when he tells his buddies he is going to vote for Biden, built in retort, John Kasich endorsed him!
It is just a fig leaf for them.

(13,168 posts)At the very least, it would shake up the Fox News bubble world that keeps former Obama-voting Trumpies brainwashed. A good chunk of Never Trumpers voted third party also, and we could use them in the Biden column.

(16,313 posts)I may not necessarily watch it because there will be a lot of speeches but if it brings more people to vote for Biden its worth a few minutes. My advice is if people find it upsetting to take that time to make snacks.

(11,514 posts)Then youll understand that a speech at our convention by Kasich wont change any of their minds. They will either vote for Biden or not and we can reach out to them during the campaign. For me, the Democratic convention is about Democrats.

(11,514 posts)If they choose to vote for Biden/Harris, thats really great. However, I dont hold out any illusions about who and what Republican Party actually stands for. They have shown us time and time again. As far as Im concerned, it would be preferable to have our kumbaya moment after the convention.
JI7
(89,241 posts)There is no kumbaya moment for anyone.
there are those who hate to see Biden getting supoort becsuse they want him to lose and then there are those who want him to win .

(32,653 posts)hear from Lebron James, Oprah, hell, any of our great democratic allies.
That being said, the DNC convention is actually the LAST thing on my mind right now. We need to quickly get through next week and then immediately pivot to the USPS hearings. I love our team and ticket, but it's all meaningless if the game is rigged and our votes aren't counted due to criminal mischief!

(89,241 posts)becsuse Kasich thinks Trump is worse for the country than someone he disagrees with on issues.
He is actually supporting the democratic ticket unlike the scumbag trolls from 2016 that booed Hillary Clinton, John lewis and other (mostly black) Democrats and ended up supporting Trump because they claimed the democratic candidate wasn't progressive.

(6,011 posts)Moderate Republicans hate Trump. They also hate the low ratings of the current GOP in Congress.
Like it, or not, this nation is going to need help from both sides of the aisle to right the ship.
Not just in regards to the Trump mess, but for years down the road.

(1,184 posts)Not everyone's a Democrat in this country, and having a member of the opposing party stand up and speak for Biden is a way of sticking it to them. It's a way of saying that Donald Trump is too batshit crazy.
We need to get over our purity. Kasich isn't going to be up there spouting Republican policies. He's going to vouch for Biden's character, experience, family, and saneness vs. Donald Trump's. It helps reinforce an overarching narrative about Biden.
