That's on Earth! Meteorologists haven't documented temperatures even close to that since 1913.

LAS VEGAS — Texas, we've had our fair share of hot summer heat but nothing like this.

Meteorologists are working to confirm whether a California town reached the planet’s hottest temperature reading Sunday in more than a hundred years, according to The Weather Channel.

The Furnace Creek Visitor Center in Death Valley National Park measured a preliminary temperature of 130 degrees Fahrenheit at about 3:40 p.m., the National Weather Service Las Vegas confirmed. The park sits about 100 miles west-northwest of Las Vegas.

This is deadly! Refrigerants only function up to 120 F! 😰

5. Yes, there is serious discussion of eliminating tenure, so I am very fortunate.

I teach Art History, and yes, we are totally online.

The only classes not online are subjects like nursing and fire science and ceramics.

10. Ah, Furnace Creek

Drove from Vegas to LA one summer in the '70s and stopped at the "creek" out of curiosity. Not a molecule of water of course and, good grief, is that creek well named. Got out of the car for only a minute or two and thought I must have caught fire.

I had AC and felt sorry for the poor schmucks driving with their windows down and tongues hanging out. How anyone could live around there escapes me.

122° that day.
Given that was 40+ years ago, I'm believing 130.
I'm not getting the refrigerant thing though. On an air conditioner compressor, the high temperature side runs 150-155°F. So, even at 130, the delta T is still over 10°C.
The air conditioner won't work as well, of course, but 130 shouldn't be too hot for functionality.
The danger temperature for coolants (starts damaging seals & bearings) is 10-15°F above the boiling point of water.
