Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sparred with Ohio's former Republican governor, John Kasich, before both are slated to speak at the Democratic National Convention.
Kasich told Buzzfeed News that Ocasio-Cortez doesn't represent the Democratic party and that her voice is exaggerated by the media.
Ocasio-Cortez hit back at Kasich in a set of tweets on Monday, arguing that while she hopes Kasich convinces other Republicans to vote for Biden, he's "an anti-choice extremist" and "is not a friend to workers."
Shortly before both are slated to speak at the Democratic National Convention, Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called John Kasich "an anti-choice extremist" in response to an interview in which the former Republican governor from Ohio criticized the congresswoman.

(11,399 posts)She responded, reminding people of Kaisich's positions. Kaisich only sounds "reasonable" because he is being compared to Trump, whose idiocy is threatening to take down the Republican Party as well as the nation.
Kaisich talks about "moderates" but he is not a moderate. He signed into law a bill that bans abortion after 20 weeks. He is anti-Union, signing a bill that prohibits public Union employees from striking. He is a Drug Warrior, wanting to "stomp all drugs out of this country". He presided over 15 death penalty executions. He is opposed to the Federal Government doing anything on Climate Change. He supports private prisons. He supports charter schools and vouchers instead of fixing public schools.
He is not say a Trump extremist or a Louie Gohmert, but he is a modern Republican, which is extreme enough to not defend him after he attacks a Democratic Party Representative.

We are trying to win
You make some accusations that Biden is a one term president. How do you know that?
Regardless, when Bidens termis up, whenever that is, Kamala Haarris most likely will be our nominee, Kasich sure wont if that is what you are trying to imply
As for your assumption that repukes dont even know who he is, are you from Ohio? People in Ohio sure know who he is, and that is the whole point, we are trying to get Ohio
We get Ohio, the election is over
Because he wants to stir shit up with Ocasio-Cortez, so what, she didnt sit ideally by while he did that, she threw his false accusation right back at him
There is a much bigger issue, and that is winning in November

Kasich is a practitioner of the type of Republican politics that lead directly to Trump. Ohio has been the center of some of the most questionable Election Day events in my life time. Otherwise her approval rating will be capped near 40-45%. Swing voters do not appreciate that type of personality in a female candidate. It is simply reality and no reason to believe it will change.
I agree...there was no point to her comments. You don't want to be attacking someone who is endorsing Biden in a speech that will be a centerpiece moment, whether she likes it or not. She seems to think she has to play to her base every 5 minutes.

Kasich has ZERO right to sit in judgement of who is and who is no representative of our party, and less than zero right to call any Democrat an extremist. For but one example, he signed a bill that would imprison a doctor just for performing a routing abortion procedure.

(9,986 posts)He can speak at our convention if he wants to denounce Trump and weed off the barely-existent moderate-Republican vote and that's nice, but the LAST thing the Democratic Party needs is to be pushed further right.
We already lose votes from young people because there's not enough being done about the issues they care about, like raising the minimum wage, increasing access to health care (not health INSURANCE, that's not the same thing as health CARE), standing up against police brutality, etc.
I think AOC was wrong to call Kasich an "extremist," I don't think he is, but he is also a powerful man who should be able to take a little criticism.
Also, he's not a Democrat and AOC is. We should be backing her here.
