Just chatted with a man 50ish we were waiting on takeout order

at local Italian Restaurant. Asked me how long I thought we would have to put up with masks etc and I said at least til next summer. He shook his head and said Trump dropped the ball on this. I said well I’m not a Trump fan. He said he voted for him in 2016 but no way would he vote for him now since he completely mismanaged the pandemic.

Yes anecdotal. In a red part of Albuquerque.

They're slowly being dragged into the 21st Century, some kicking and screaming, others trying to give up their old world views and decently turn toward new ones.

Their kids and grandkids are helping along these lines, too.

If this comes as a surprise to you, I'm more than a little shocked. This is the way of Democracy; people vote for what they perceive is their best interest, not some random issue that happens halfway across the country to people they'll never meet or even hear about again. Like it or not, 90+% of the average American population either hasn't heard of or doesn't care about whatever new outrage-de-jure Trump does, unless it directly affects them.

Thankfully (if such can be said about a pandemic that kills millions) this pandemic has touched everyone in one way, shape or form, so it's pretty likely that the idiot will get stampeded out of office on a blue wave that makes 2018 look like a kiddie pool.

tRump "mismanaged the pandemic"? He did NOTHING, how can anyone call THAT managed or mismanaged? We were left on our own, after he was warned for a couple of months ahead of time that it was coming. It would have interrupted his Nazi rallies, and golf games, so forget it.

Literally everyone I talk to knows someone or has met someone who either voted for Trump or didn't vote at all who can't WAIT to vote against him this time. Think about how many people that is, and then remember that Trump lost by 3 million votes last time.

I, myself, have 2 people JUST IN MY FAMILY who didn't vote in 2016 (my mom and aunt decided they "just didn't like Hillary&quot , but are foaming at the mouth to vote for Biden this time around. This is what I'm saying. I bet every person on this board has a story like that. Those numbers add up.

I heard lots of "it's just like the flu" several months ago. Now, lots of people wearing masks. There's several outdoor music venues where it's very easy to socially distance. Lots of people telling me it's the only place they go now. They don't feel safe going to inside venues. BIG change for around here.

a proposition that very sadly cannot be dismissed, I disagree with people who say we won’t know the result for days. In an undisturbed election, this would be a historic rout. I don’t think we should sit on our hands. We should donate. We should vote. We should make certain our like-minded friends, neighbors and relatives vote. But we have a good chance he’ll be voted out. He is incompetent and unpopular.

thoughtful responses. My read with this gentleman tonight was...The pandemic has turned his way of life upside down. Maybe the kids in his life can’t go to school maybe he can no longer go to his office to work. He had forgotten his mask (we were in our cars so adequate distance) and he was tired of that continued mask hassle. Who knows what he thinks about local or national sports being sidelined. In short he misses his day to day life.
Yes many other reasons to despise Trump but Trump taking away the daily life we lead as Americans will be resented by so many of us and not just us Democratic voters.

And to add he was real pleasant in our brief encounter I think he simply missed talking to people.

I live in primarily a Democratic area of Chicago (is that redundant?) However.....my 2 next door neighbors are not only republicans, but MAGATS. One is more low keyed about it than the other. The more vocal one had a trump sign in his yard in 2016, which I flipped off every time I walked by.

I am bracing myself for the trump signs and flags to come out any day now. This is the first time in my political life I envision trespassing in his yard and removing his signs. That is not who I am, yet this evil trump has brought out such deep hatred in me, I'm sure many others as well.

So, instead of thinking about trespassing, totally focusing on where I can place my HUGE Biden Harris flag.

Get personally hurt or potentially hurt by tRump’s actions or inactions. At one time we all believed there was nothing that could break the bond between tRump and his supporters. Now we know that isn’t quite accurate. Apparently, some people do take their own personal safety and well being very seriously. They could be blind to his faults but whenever it began to threaten them and their families, it started to get real for them. Finally.

So take it as a sign of hope even if you only encounter a few here and there that have broken the spell. It still represents something to give us a reason to smile and carry on.

Do not get lulled into a false sense of security. All similar stories could actually be about the same one person.

There is no substitute for voting on the day.
