It seems more genuine, somehow. No one is playing for applause, theyre just speaking from their hearts. And if feels like there is a wider range of speakers. Michelle blew it out the first night, but the best line was probably His only preexisting condition was trusting Trump. I got a chill when I heard that.
Anyone else feel the same way?

That being said, I agree. Although a lot of work went into the planning. Next week I predict a lame copy cat attempt by the Repukes.

(49,679 posts)No loss of momentum from moving people on and off a stage, pausing for applause, etc. Weaker speakers can be considerately edited. Maybe future conventions will be more of a hybrid of the two styles.

(7,367 posts)Who would never get any speaking time under a normal convention. So we get to hear from a more diverse group than usual.
For example, Reagan's last Convention speech wasn't shown on the networks due to Pat Buchanan's long and winded speech...when the GOP desperately needed Reagan. But after reading Bolton's book...and given he and Pat are cut from the same cloth, think it was intentional. They fucking hated Reagan worse than any Democratic politician or supporter. It's because of Bolton we unilaterally pulled out of negotiated treaties...when the rest of the world wanted us to stay in them. They saw Reagan as a weakling for willing to negotiate....let that sink in for a minute.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
