I feel like these two nights have been completely amazing.
And let me also say ... Joe was the right person for this time.
There is no longer any doubt in my mind.
Am I wrong?

(24,610 posts)Expected it be good, but with lots of technical glitched....I was wrong. The best convention of my life and I've been watching them since 1968.

(8,348 posts)I had my reservations over this one. I realize in COVID times, and the complete failure of the President to control it, the TV convention was necessary, but I could not visualize it.
I am converted. This has been amazing. The message is getting out and getting out with purpose, direction, compassion and precision.
If this is the future, I am comfortable.

(2,176 posts)I personally think that the way the convention had to be held is better than in person. Whoever set it up, deserves more money.

My wife laughed and said shouldnt she be aging? Shes how old?!?
I looked it up. WOW.

(15,006 posts)changing their mind... That's the messed up situation we are in -- most people are not going to watch either convention, and fewer still will watch both so as to see the contrast.
I would take issue with Biden over loads of policy and rhetorical issues of we were ever to discuss policy and its presentation just the two of us, but I would literally risk my life to cast a vote for him in this election. Because Trump as POTUS means certain death for so many of us...
PatrickforO
(14,592 posts)But that is the contrast, isn't it? The Biden/Harris ticket = hope, kindness, empathy, a bringing together.
The Trump/Pence ticket - divisiveness, polarization, racism, xenophobia, FEAR.
Hope vs fear and hatred.

(13,061 posts)As i went on my long walk today with my daughter i rewatched on my fone all the clips MSNBC had, and earlier rewatched the roll call. My little puppy jumped on my lap & we both cheered for every state when the speaker said "X votes for Joe Biden"
This whole thing was so well done, and reflective of the fact Joe surrounds himself with the best people, in contrast to the Idiot. Everything he touches dies.

(142 posts)YouTube glitched rather badly during the bio piece, but Im assuming that was an incident local to the server/server farm that was streaming to my connection. (Watched the direct DNC, not one of the commercial channels.)
Incredible technology, try to guess how many how many tenshundreds of thousandsmillions?of physical and virtual servers were streaming the videos? I remember one of the first timeS Apple tried to stream One of the WWDC (annual developers conference) keynote speeches .... not impressive...

(45,021 posts)But like many traditions, they've failed to stay up to date. Much less lead. One silver lining here in quarantine time is we've discovered smart ways to connect. I'm sure it's always been a blast to be in those big halls but this virtual convention is engaging millions in more personal, impactful ways.
PatrickforO
(14,592 posts)And it was quite engaging. I'm pretty excited, actually. I'm watching tomorrow, too, because Harris is up tomorrow. I really want to see her. This is a great ticket.

(14,592 posts)I'm feeling some hope again. I mean, just having a normal, sane kind of guy who actually has compassion - that's a pretty big deal compared with what we have had.

so now the GOP is scrambling to redo their prerecorded white guys in suits or jeans..
btw limbaugh wondered why it was that michelle 'my belle' obama couldnt redo her speech to include kamala..... is there something there... mishelle must be jealous, etc.... it is fucking amazing dems let this shit go on for 30 fucking years from 1500 radio stations- and with putin using limbaugh for at least a decade.

(7,220 posts)and the format is really working.
It's oddly more personal, I didn't expect that. Seemed faster paced than usual.which keeps the network commentators quieter.

(7,637 posts)in the past we woulg get clips in the evening news or shows about what happened that day at the convention. the virtual convention is being streamed and broadcasted to millions. its going to have a huge impact.

(2,191 posts)Even aside from the GOP's lack of content and character, she said that from her experience in campaigns she knows that the RNC doesn't have anyone who could produce something like this.
I have to think that the RNC also got a late start on planning for a virtual convention. Though I imagine they'll try to gather as many people together as possible for Trump.

SO GLAD THE PRIMARIES ARE 100% and OFFICIALLY OVER and mah people are back to acting (a bit more) normal 'round these parts!!!

(155 posts)But they need to stop being so nostalgic by bringing out old relics and focus on young voters and the next generation. They need to motivate young voters to the polls. It is not enough that this demographic does not support Trump. They still need a reason to vote for Biden. His story may not be relatable to the young voter. More outreach is needed. This has been spelled out by many young Progressive groups. They vote only at 46%. Imagine if Dems could double the % for Nov 3rd.

(334 posts)DNC is rocking it. I have loved every minute of it so far.

(11,823 posts)...on the first two nights (I would like someone a bit more energetic), but I'm really just nitpicking. They've both been fine, and some of the speeches and "productions" have been excellent. Given the circumstances, I think it's about as good as they could do. The one thing I do like, and I hope they continue is the roll call. That "tour" of the US was dope AF.

(57,246 posts)it make is look real. I think sometimes that we were over polished in the some conventions past. But this feels genuine and I am a cynic.
