He was only 72. He passed away in Vienna, per family, after a brief illness.
I enjoyed all of his performances, especially as Harold Abrahams in Chariots of Fire.

(10,429 posts)but he also did a great performance in the short reboot of Dark Shadows in 1991. He was a perfect Barnabas Collins.

(10,429 posts)the original Dark Shadows was a flop until they brought in the ghosts and vampires. And there were other successful shows like Bewitched, and the multitude of scary movies.
I think the remake might have done better if they had quickly taken the storyline in a new direction instead of just re-doing the plot of the original.

(61,695 posts)was a hoot! The ball with Alice Cooper thing was so funny!
"This family could use more balls!"

(8,709 posts)But, of course, Depp, Pfeiffer and when the originals: Jonathan Frid, Angelique, Quentin, and I think Caroline appeared at that ball, including Christopher Lee in the movie, I was just bowled over seeing them all again.
Delightful take with a wonderful homage.

(61,695 posts)original series. Barnabas was already there.
I liked the gothic feel of it, with old mansions near a high cliff overlooking the ocean and deep woods nearby. "It was a dark and stormy night" at least once a week!

I had to watch it everyday, never missed!
Dr. Strange
(25,921 posts)I liked the revival, short-lived though it was. And the really young Joseph Gordon-Levitt added quite the flair with his version of David Collins.

Ben Cross was a good actor and very good in Chariots.
