Could 2016 be the last real in person convention

I was a Clinton delegate to the 2016 convention in Philadelphia There is a tradition in my area that trips to the convention to a national convention are an once in a lifetime experience and that if you have been to a convention in the past, you do not run again and let others have a chance.

I really like this format of this convention and the logistics of doing a live in person convention are daunting. If this convention was a live event, the Texas and California delegations would have been housed at hotels at O'hare airport and Texas and California delegates would have been on buses 4+ hours each day. The roll call in 2016 took a very long time and was boring to me sitting in my delegation. I loved last night's roll call and think that this format should be the future.

Live in person conventions may be a dinosaur that deserves to be extinct. It was expensive to attend a live convention and I can see the party deciding to cut back and doing virtual conventions in the future.

I loved the glimpse- of- each- state roll call. We have exceptionally talented speakers, and great video technical people.

I feel sorry for the people who are lucky enough to attend in person. That would be so much fun, despite the obvious hassles of any big meeting.

But for the millions watching a screen, this is so much better. I actually have watched it all so far. I usually have a tv on, but sitting through all the slow-moving wait-for-applause convention didn't keep my attention well.

This format not only should free up millions of dollars that could be better spent getting the candidate elected, it is a shorter, faster-moving and far more interesting show to watch. I would bet that ratings will be up over previous conventions.

Again, the tradition in my county/state senate district is that attending a national convention is an once in a life time experience. There was some great things including catching up with a law school class mate and attending a seminar with John Lewis There were problems with the last convention including watching planned stunts of John Lewis,, Elijah Cummings and other being booed after being warned of these stunts by my Clinton whip, having a mini riot at the Texas delegation breakfast sue to sanders delegates demanding that we condemn Hillary and a bunch of sanders delegates yelling and cursing at my daughter and calling her the c-word because she would not try to get me to change my vote.

I like the virtual convention experience more. I will miss the balloon drop tomorrow. One of my favorite memories is Bill Clinton playing with the balloons with a big grin on his face.

People are eventually going to get really sick of the virtual world. We can't be contained forever.

6. It would make sense to use this format for ALL the preliminary stuff, but have the last night

live, and in a full arena.

We don't have to have it every night. Besides, very few start watching at 5 pm and stick with it for the duration (another 6+ hours). Most of the arenas are only half full during those early hours anyway. Virtual is certainly the way to go for the roll call vote.

Sure, things flowed a lot smoother, but I really missed the electricity, the enthusiasm, the roar of approval and acceptance. There are times that I actually get chills. That is still needed.

It would also allow for cities to actually benefit financially from hosting the convention. They could still get a boost for three days... the day before, the day of, and the day after. Or two nights and three days for hotels and restaurants. We could still spread the financial benefits around, and cut down on the overall expense, at the same time.

7. I think they can do a combination of the two when things get back to normal

things like music performances can be done live at the convention. The Major speeches can be done live also.

But I think the everyday people speeches are better taped because it's easier to understand also. Many of them are not public speakers so doing it live can sound a bit off and distract from what they are saying . And taping it would allow more people to do it also since they wont have to worry about a live audience .

8. I don't think conventions like this will have the same type of bounce as live theatrics

That's why I believe both parties will return to traditional approach. I guarantee with Wisconsin so pivotal the DNC would prefer to have a large loud arena type sporting atmosphere and spilling over into the streets and hotels, with state and local media anticipation and coverage throughout.

This is more of a cerebral version and although impressive I doubt it will move the polls very much. That's okay since we are ahead. I'm not going to watch the GOP version but I doubt it will impact the polling too much either.

The speeches work great in this setting. Nobody is shaky nervous. Nobody butchers the emphasis of a key line. Nobody gets rattled by unexpected crowd reaction at certain segments and lack thereof in other segments. Taped speeches are almost like a mulligan in golf.

It would be fine with me if the conventions remain this way forever, but I've never been a social butterfly either. I enjoy a small group of friends, but large crowds drain my life force. Lol.

It's also nice to not observe booing from a group of conspiracy nuts, or whatever.

The convention is better with human interaction. Especially if there is a dispute about the nominee
