(1,568 posts)If Trump says something, then it's absolute fact no matter what the evidence suggest. Can't even discuss it, because it's like one ear out the other. No attempt to analyze what was said, or even refute the actual content of what I said. It's literally some cult-like insanity. I would assume they are all trolls too if I didn't know people like that. Even when I try to appeal to their conservative sensibilities when it comes to pointing out something negative about Trump, it doesn't work. You're right when you say hopeless.

(53,254 posts)when it comes from someone you know and love or at least someone you thought you knew. Not only is Trump a con artist and a fraud, he's not even a very good con artist, so it is hard to see what on earth his followers are buying. My idea of a persuasive flimflam man is someone with charm, charisma, intelligence, and often good looks. Trump is more like a con artist wannabe. Can you imagine Donald Trump selling one trombone to the good folks of River City? Even televangelists are more articulate and appealing than Trump.
My sister and I have an understanding to avoid politics if we want to remain family. I knew she watched Fox News, but until very recently I had no idea she supported Trump. I really didn't think she could possibly be that brainwashed and then it came out when she posted a few obnoxious Facebook memes. I tried to explain to her that my negative reaction wasn't about politics, it was because I really care about her and it upsets me that anyone could do that to her mind.
It often feels like we're living in some cheesy futuristic dystopian movie, where a large percentage of the population has been mind-altered by their overlords, in this case Fox News and other right-wing media. It appears that science fiction writers of the 20th century were our modern day prophets.
By the way, my daughter said she has just started responding to Trumpers with something like, "I know you're smarter than that", rather than arguing with them. Hopefully, it plants a seed. It worked with her uncle a few years back. I hope some day you get back the parents you lost.

Sometimes I think of what and when our "turning point" will be. When will it become too late for this country to be saved for democracy and for those who would save it? When will we know when all is lost and there is still time to flee while we still have our lives? I know most of you will think that impossible and too dramatic, but others have thought the same in other times and they were unfortunately too optimistic.
I still have hope that we can overcome this push toward fascism, however even if we get rid of Trump and his administration, what is to be done with his die hard supporters, of which there are legion. They aren't going to just disappear. I honestly don't know the answer or what the future holds, but this is something I think about often.
