You know what grinds my gears about convention speech reaction?

When they say, "I didn't hear anything about blank", when it was there if you listen. The consensus on NBC, ABC and CBS today was that there was nothing about policy in Biden's speech. Plus Trump surrogates were echoing this in their 15-20 minute segments.

Let's review:
On covid-19, the policy will be guided by experts based on facts on the ground at the time. Shutting down the economy again would be a drastic measure only taken if Trump leaves the country in bad enough shape to require it. Republicans say he said he would just shut it down.

On the general economy, I heard about job creating plans to modernize our infrastructure and to move us toward green energy. I heard, but they did not, about help with child care so that working parents would not be stuck if they have to work.

Am I crazy to think I heard these things? Was I dreaming?

1. You're not crazy.

You’re being gaslighted. That’s the whole point of gaslighting—to make you distrust your mind and memory so that you can accept the lies that others are feeding you.

The convention was strong and clear on policy.

4. They didn't hear because they weren't listening, too busy running their mouth

5. I could see the mouthpieces saying this stuff

or one or two network types, ahem Chuck Todd, characterizing it this way, but the baked in consensus it what gets me the most. Obama used to get the same crap. What allays my concerns is that Biden will have no trouble at all answering these critiques and laying out everything in detail. Of course then they will say he bored us with nuance and detail, but that is another battle.

7. They think policy is only about cutting taxes. Since he didn't say that, he was negligent.

They don't hear anything except about them saving money. He didn't talk about hordes of immigrants, he didn't talk about a wall, he didn't talk about it's ok for white men to rape, he didn't denigrate minorities so he obviously neglected all policies that they want.

8. "Whoa, whoa, whoa... that stuff might cost money!"

"And that could mean higher taxes!"

"Tell Chuckie-boy to say policies weren't brought up. Keep their minds off the real-policy stuff. Then segue into that clip of the guy screaming the n-word at the gas station."

9. Seems like it's mostly purity dead enders who do that.

10. I was heartened to hear Biden talk about supporting unions.

To me, a strong labor movement is the key to restoring some equality and moving the country forward.
