Novel coronavirus infections are trending upward across the Midwest, raising concerns that those states are struggling to contain their outbreaks even as the nations total daily caseload continues to decline.
Seven-day averages for new cases rose over the past week in the Dakotas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Oklahoma and Wyoming, according to tracking by The Washington Post. South Dakota and Wyoming experienced the biggest jumps, with average daily caseloads up 58 percent and 50 percent, respectively.
Other states reported progress against the virus, though it appeared to be marginal in some places. Daily case averages declined by about 3 percent over the previous week in Wisconsin and by 10 to 20 percent in several other Midwestern states, according to The Posts tracking.

(16,043 posts)37 deaths total, so there time has come like the rest of the country. 30 states have over 1,000 deaths! Thats incredible and horrible!

(58,755 posts)Social distancing is normal for them.
Seriously, though, rates are pretty low in all of the more sparsely populated states, which is what one should expect.

The 7 day moving average was 619 cases/day on July 19. Yesterday it was 1,979. 3x in 34 days!
Testing is up over 50,000 per day, but the rate is up 60%, so it's more about a higher infection rate than testing increases. The latter is a factor, but much less than the fact that infections are up!
