Shut a trumper today. And it felt good. Even my wife of 33 years was impressed.

We went to Breweries in Sanford Florida with a good friend. She is the only one inside our ‘bubble’. Works with the wife although from home 4/5 days.

Anyway we are at the bar with just the masked young, cute bartender and one other customer 15 feet away who was young and obviously flirting with the bartender. Nothing inappropriate. Believe me it was safe. When another middle aged couple came in. Heavyish woman and the man way probably a little bigger than me. They had hardly been there 5 minutes when he said this whole virus will disappear in November. His wife said there may be Democrats in here so be careful. 6 months ago I would have not said a word, but no more. I told him there are 3 democrats Right here and I came to drink beer, not listen to bullshit. He shut his pie hole right up. Told him we can agree about good beer if he wants and he was all about that. We left shortly thereafter as we had another brewery to visit.

As we walked away my wife asked me what was that about. Told here I was not going to sit there and listen to a bunch of republican bullshit. Then told her, verbatim ‘they are fucking cowards. Unless they outnumber us they clam right up.”

Won’t change his mind. But now he knows not to assume that guys who look like him welcome his bullshit.

(I read DU on the phone, but my texting skills suck.)

‘they are fucking cowards. Unless they outnumber us they clam right up.”

That's it in a nutshell. They talk loud, but say nothing. They argue on a emotional, nonfactual basis. When you challenge their fallacies with facts, they don't know how to respond. Especially when you engage calmly and determinedly.

The only time you lose is when they outnumber you 4 or 5 to 1. Then you get all of them shouting easily refuted lies at the same time - a team building experience for them - and, so - at that point - is it worth engaging further? I don't.

Kind of like where the German people were, when Hitler came to power. That ended well.....

om edit: Our best strategy is to engage at the 1-to-1 level and educate them.

Realize most of the are not like Bars. Few people go to get drunk. It’s a sedate crowd.

Everyone wears masks to enter and the ones I frequent have us sitting over 10 feet apart. Everyone wears masks until their beers arrive. And moving between groups or moving tables is strictly prohibited. If you get up to go to the bathroom you have to wear masks. And many have outdoor seating.

I was reluctant to return because the horror story about bars. But the breweries are under a lot of scrutiny and are being pretty draconian about enforcing the rules.

If the things Fauci says are to believed this is how we can have a safe, functional economy. I feel safer than at the grocery where I pass close to strangers.

Not been out of my house/yard except for an occasional grocery run since the pandemic began. You couldn’t pay me to go into a public restroom.

I had a “mild” case according to my doctor. Sickest I’ve ever been.

Temps ranged from 100 at the onset to four days of temps of 102 to 104. Headaches, body aches beyond belief. Sweated through my sheets three nights in a row. Chills so bad I cranked the ac into the 80s. The worst thing was the fear that it might worsen.

Again, you’re braver than I.

It’s a damn nasty virus, just awful.

I was terrified because I did have asthma badly as a child. But no breathing problems.

As my doctor said, it was a “mild” case. I can’t remember the last time I even had a cold, so it was a rough week and a half. The fever was scary. I really felt besieged by an awful enemy. I’ve never had a fever that high except for appendicitis at age 11.

Still having brain fog, and not back to my usual energy. I can’t imagine it being worse.

It makes me feel even more horrified for what those who are hospitalized must suffer.

to ride in different spots here in the upper Midwest, and seek out microbreweries in the area I'm visiting. I always make sure they have some kind of outdoor seating, or at least a setup where it's open air. I'm always there around mid-afternoon, so the places are nowhere near crowded at that time of day. All of the employees at the places I've visited have been masked, and I leave mine on as well until I sit down to drink.

Lived here since the early 80's....except for an 8 year hiatus to Brockton, MA. Like 2 different worlds. In social interaction and thinking. Very provincial thinking up in Maine; limited education for many (HS). Everyone knows each other and share political/social opinions exclusively so they are pretty insulated - and I doubt they realize it. My Mass experience was obviously totally different. Great diversity and enlightened, educated people.

If we react with silence, they tell themselves it's either tacit support or cowardice.

If we call them out, they scuttle into their shells, only coming back out when it's "safe."

If we teach them it's never "safe," they'll never come out of their damn shells again.

...with so little confrontation of the facts, they have been spoiled to believe their lies are believed and somehow become accurate if they don't get any flack about them. We need to change that. Just like the epiphany I had all those years ago when I realized I was contributing to racism if I didn't speak up against it when I witnessed it , I have recently realized we are contributing to the lies and misinformation when we don't call it out. It can be terribly uncomfortable and even dangerous, but at the very least we are making at least one of the thugs a bit less comfortable with spreading lies and inaccuracies. So good for you! I am glad there were 3 of you, but I have a feeling you wouldn't have been quiet if it had just been you. Thank you for your courage and patriotism!

We were at a rescue over the weekend that is caring for Gibbons confiscated from a private person who had no business with the pair. They are working to return to the wild but it's iffy... I learned Gibbons mate for live and have a unique "song" they sing every morning and every night to keep their bond strong.

At any rate that male was putting on a show for her swing about, making all kinds of racket ... his mate just laying over in the crook of a tree basically ignoring him. She's heard that noise before.

I admit I did my Mr. like that sometimes. After 50 years plus there's not a whole lot of new ground to cover.... and that is the exact attraction of long term relations.

He kept putting my Fels - Naptha soap in what I thought was a weird place that annoyed me at first. Then I realized ...well after the first time.... I know where to look so what's the deal?

On the flip side, I just could never sleep well by the window ... so he taught himself how to sleep on the other side of the bed. He also had to get used to me walking on that side of him.
