General Discussion

to discuss this Falwell business in the manner in which I would like to.
Now dont get me wrong, I respect those rules and have no problem with them. But oh boy do I have some thoughts.

(37,745 posts)Why we have this rule: Democratic Underground is a diverse community which includes people of every race, sex, religious belief (or lack thereof), sexual orientation, gender identity, body type, disability, age, etc. We want to promote a welcoming atmosphere for all of our members, and do not want to provide a platform for bigotry.

(31,261 posts)They had the guy in their home in Virginia, with a late teen daughter also living there. Maybe the home is huge and they had servants and nannies, but the situation certainly was not what one would expect in a healthy family.

The Actor portraying Brian May says this about American moral hypocrisy. .."They are Puritans in public, perverts in private."
This could well describe and explain the situation Jerry Falwell, Jr. finds himself in.

(12,865 posts)But dispise what they do believe or say.
It's a normal reaction to things that are toxic to your mind other people or community.
We hate the republicans and what they do,say and believe.
Because certain Christian's chose to wed themselves to the republican party and the church is part of what they support I say you have every right to rant about it.
Other Christian's who won't condemn them or question thier beliefs and why they believe them are a problem even though we like to think they're not.
I used to be evangelical and it caused me real psychological damage it was the belief itself the words in the bible itself that caused me distress. And the words and behaviors of others that believed in it.
Some things are toxic and need to be called out because it's abusive.
That's how I feel about it.
It isn't bigotry it's a defense against it that appears to be bigotry based in a reaction because they don't like what I say about something they call sacred that caused me psychological harm and is toxic and makes people do toxic shit.
An observer based in what they believe will react strongly. But that does not mean the person upset saying stuff the believer does not like is being a bigot. They might be reacting to something toxic about a belief system in what that belief system is.
We hate Nazis.
Some beliefs by the nature of the belief is Nazi and it does not have to be Nazi to be Nazi. If you get my drift.
I hope I made sense here.
