If the narrative is police brutality, absolutely. If the narrative is the exact opposite and that is lost in the riots - it will hurt Biden.

There's a reason bettors are moving away from him over the last 24 hours and it's not because they feel confident in Trump - it's that they feel less confident that Americans will continue to sympathize as more and more riots happen.

Riots started months ago and Biden's polling remained stable, because swing voters will blame the current Admin for the state of the country - not someone who is not yet in office.

Most bettors are conservative white guys.

Wisconsin and Minnesota - two states Biden needs to win. If Trump is going to have a chance, scaring white voters in those states about rioters and threatening them with the idea that Biden is to blame ... may just work.

Biden still is the favorite but there's no question the state polling has tightened a bit. Now, that's not a result of this episode but you do wonder what role it'll play.

Biden or Dems have nothing to do with this - this is Trump's America that he creates everyday with his divisive rhetoric.

And much of the violence at these protests is being done by alt-right types.

Note that the protests and riots started months ago (after the Floyd murder) and Biden's numbers haven't changed much.

in Portland on Saturday, in Kenosha last night. they are trying to provoke a race war. BLM is not trying to provoke a race war, even though they're getting shot 7 times in the back.

Trump will definitely try to make white people terrified that the blacks and the anarchists are coming for their boring stuff, but I think the lines are drawn. not many votes to shift at this point.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other... and until or unless objective data is offered and a valid analysis and conclusion drawn from that, it's simply guesswork and prophecy.

The two actions could work in tandem. Overt police action could be a significant element that could affect less committed voters and in turn strengthen the cause of those protesting.

I think that overall the best situation for those of us that are desperate to get rid of this monstrosity and his filthy henchmen would be for the demonstrations to be totally peaceful. This has proven to be the most effective. Especially if the police use violent means to suppress peaceful demonstrators as happen during the Martin Luther marches. I remember when they reached the bridge and the police wade in with clubs and vicious dogs the people were appalled by what was broadcast nationally. It had a profound affect that turned the tide of public opinion.

Could the police's lack of response actually be designed to allow the violence in order to discredit the vast majority who are peaceful?

...to vote for or align with white supremacist, Christian nationalist, nativist right-wing extremists if there wasn't fertile ground to begin with. No amount of misinformation or scare tactics could make someone more horrified about property damage than they are the brutalization of human beings, which they have seen repeatedly with their own eyes, or the demand to be seen and treated as fully human. Anyone looking for an excuse to vote for Trump or the GOP was already inclined to prefer an authoritarian society which continues to place white people, Christian people and USA-born people above everyone else, and anything contrary to that is frightening to them.

I believe a vote for Trump and the GOP in 2020 is an undeniable vote for white supremacy. Those who are "frightened" might as well own it.
