I feel like all day I have been reading news stories, Twitter posts, betting markets, and online comments about how the polls are tightening and that it seems like the election is up in the air. Yet all of the polls seem to be showing Biden with the same 8.5-9.0 average lead that has had for 12-18 months? Where is this collective impression that Trump is surging and that the election is suddenly a nail biter coming from? I cant find any evidence that anything has changed at all.

(1,154 posts)Making it seem like more of a horse race is good for their business, and they may believe that it also inspires more people to vote. In any case, it's standard procedure during a general election.

(7,947 posts)I remember this same thing when Clinton was obviously going to trounce Bob Dole. (And it got even worse when Perot suddenly did his whiny third-party thing.) The media didn't want to just say, well, it's all over, so some suggested Perot would get most of his votes from Clinton, when it was obvious he'd hurt Dole much more.

(31,931 posts)Or anything else. They have their own private polls that no one in the public ever sees. Every two years the CT that polls are manipulated comes out. Without a shred of evidence. How come there is never a whistleblower who "tells all" about these polls?

(1,124 posts)Notice I did use the word CLAIM ... trump is following Putin's path to the destruction of a democracy. Except it is our democracy and as Americans we don't tolerate dictators very well.
VOTE! Get these disgusting "Republican" enablers out of office and insist Democrats pass laws to ensure no President can ever ignore the rule of law again. trump has proven we can no longer trust that traditions and common-sense ethics will be followed by a wanna be dictator and his cohorts.
