Other teams vote to continue, more discussions tomorrow.
Seems like NBA season will likely be cancelled, other major sports may
follow suit.
The players are standing by what they believe in.

(53,840 posts)That was the reason for the "bubble" and the games being played to complete the season and the playoffs.
The NBA has the best commissioner of all major sports, Adam Silver, who worked to help create the bubble, sealed off from the virus with a vigorous testing program, with tributes to the BLM movement on the court and player jerseys, but even he can't control a racist cop on the outside shooting someone in the back seven times.
Many players, in solidarity with their community, have decided to not play so what we are witnessing is an unprecedented and historic boycott of games. My hat is off to the players.

(41,844 posts)Looks like they may have to wait, especially during the pandemic and as for the other matter, its up to the team, and I am sure they will want to boycott the season.. to make a point that Black lives do matter!

(14,565 posts)But now the players/coaches/owners not the fans
Warriors under outspoken coach Steve Kerr jumpstarted the quarantine in March and now the Bucks under the trio of liberal owners has gotten this movement going.
They need to end the season then ramp up the messaging and voter registration drives

But now, because of the anti-cop sentiment, they've lost half of the audience. Now, what does the NFL think is gonna happen and what does Major League Baseball think is gonna happen once they start protesting the anthem and kneeling, which Major League Baseball has done, and they put Black Lives Matter all over the pitcher's mounds. And it's a Marxist organization. Everybody knows this. And they're ignoring it. It's not hard to find out that it's not about civil rights. It's not about fairness. It's not about doing this.
It's a pro-Marxist, anti-American, full-fledged anti-American organization.
if they really want to shake it up just tell the teams to stop broadcasting sports on all those racist radio stations. [link:http://www.fakenewsradio.org|at least 87 universities support 260 + limbaugh stations

(5,500 posts)The owners realize the players make the league. It's truly the best run and most entertaining of all professional sports.
In contrast, the NFL treats its players like slabs of meat. And in my opinion, the NFL regular season is almost unwatchable. The NFL game is boring. It's slow. College is much better--but I have a hard time watching young guys put their life on the line to play for free. While their coaches make millions and the NCAA makes billions.

(3,635 posts)They're on the side of BLM.
Dems/Biden is on the side of BLM.
Donnie little fingers has spent his Admin demonizing BLM.
Gee, wonder which one is going to lose the hearts and minds of the people.
This could very well finish off Trump as even his demographic (white men) loves pro-sports, tends to lean RW - but suddenly Trump is in the way of their pasttime. Goodbye Donnie.

(81,870 posts)I think it is appropriate to play and they have a bigger platform that way. I dont see them hitting the streets for weeks at a time. So playing should be more effective. Sitting out yesterdays games was effective at gaining attention for the issues. Im not sure that cancelling the rest of the season would be.
