So Ali Velshi is doing hurricane reports and doesn't have any show, while Stephanie Ruhle is safe

Able to go home every night, do her fluff interviews with her Wall Street contacts. Funny, it seems they both started together, and there was one clearly talented member of the pair. Yet he is out in the rain. Funny......

Bigger point, one of them embarrassed the shit out of Wall Street, the other one, not so much.

37. Saturday and Sunday, 8:00-10:00 a.m. is considered to be a great time!

That's when the government talking heads crawl out of the woodwork to face the likes of Ali Velshi, Jake Tapper, et al. Have you heard the phrase "Working the Sunday morning cable shows"? That refers to the push to put out the Repig talking points. Thing is, they also get to be interrogated and fact checked, often an entertaining and informative session.

Not to mention, the rest of the day is his.

He makes peanuts compared to Fox propaganda pushers who pump out lies one hour a night 5 nights a week.

2. I like Stephanie Ruhle.

I know it is not popular here to say that, but she kicks ass when it comes to the Trump administration lying about the economy. I am not sure what the problem is with her.

7. Granted, she has her moments

But she is absolutely dreadful with her Wall Street interviews. And not being a MAGAt on MSNBC shouldn't get her prime gigs. They moved numerous people out to make room for her, all more talented. My point is they took the least talented of the original pairing, why, because she is kind to Wall Street.

34. I like her very much as well. She's bright & knows what she's talking about. She came over from...

...their business side, & Im glad she did. Did you know she had 7 years experience with Deutsche Bank? Id love to hear more about that some day.

Yes indeed, she does kick ass on Trump lies. She is quite, quite vocal about that.

I have no idea why people here would have a problem with her. Oh wait, shes a bubbly young woman. People here kvetched about both Katy Tur and Nicolle Wallace for the longest time, and both of them paid their dues before ever getting their own shows.

Ali Veshi is fine and I wish him all the best. (Maybe he can take over for Chuck Todd some day.) I notice the corporate masters have been shuffling all the players around like mad, now that they all have to work from home and have no studio to go to. People can write to MSNBC and complain about Alis schedule, but dont take it out on women who have worked every bit as hard and are every bit as talented.

3. I don't understand MSNBC's reluctance to give Veshi a real show.

Rhule strikes me as being shrill without adding much with her program while Velshi ably fills in for all the top anchors day and night with hardly time to go home and change his shirt and he's still left out in the cold. He has to be pissed someone in MSNBC's hierarchy mightily.

19. Ali Velshi

Is doing what he loves best. He left CNN to go to Al Gores Current because he said he wanted to do real Journalism. Al sold to Aljazeera.

So do not feel sorry for Ali. He is all over MSNBC. For me he is the most popular host outside of Of Donnell. Ali is right in the middle of what he enjoys. Stephanie moved over the the Business side. Her expertise.

He said he loved being out there with the people. Also on his own show he did a segment out speaking to voters. He said he enjoyed that and hoped he had an opportunity to do that again.

It's not my place or problem to answer for him. I posted a bit of info - that he LIKES the hurricane assignments. If you must, ask HIM why?

As I said before, maybe this is the way he likes/wants it. Who are we to decide that's not right for him?

Are we done?

32. Every journalist doesn't want to have their own show

where they have several hours a week sitting in a studio (or at home in front of their computer) in full makeup talking into a camera and then spend the rest of their waking hours preparing to spend their time in a studio in full makeup talking into a camera.

Society has become so impressed by and attached to the celebrity journalist-with-a-show-named-after-them culture that people now believe that sitting in a host chair is the end-all-and-be-all of journalism and unless a reporter is given such a spot, they are somehow being treated badly.

I am a bit perturbed that the OP is absolutely sure it is a woman who is getting his spot and that someone else chimed in that she has a shrill voice.

I get the faint feeling that if this thread goes on long enough a few more recognizable tropes will show up.

On Sunday. I am a huge fan. He has a sense of humor. Is very serious about his investigative Journalism.

The first time I noticed Ali, he was doing an interview. They asked him why in the world he would leave his high rated CNN show to go with a start up. That was the answer he gave. I want to do real investigative reporting. CNN would not allow him to do real news. Now NBC does.

Having flexibility and having the opportunity to make choices for oneself are great motivators. For some, they're worth more than money. Ali seems to have given thought to his path.

12. Ali still has his staturday show.

People misunderstand Stephanie Ruhle's expertise. Velshi is an economics reporter and a very good one. Ruhle is a wealth reporter and that is much rarer. She is the window into what money used as power is thinking and doing. Ali is reporting on what is being done to accumulate money to be used for power or simply just more money.

I doubt anyone gets sent to the heart of a hurricane against their will. Just like no one gets sent to a war zone unless they ask to be sent.

else if he didn't want to do it. My guess is that he likes to do different things.

SR is usually just focused on economy and maybe that's better for her than doing something she feels she isn't informed about.

43. People like Velshi because he's not both-siderist and has moral clarity.

I like Stephanie Ruhle, she has a good personality and is sharp, but she can be both-siderist at times. She tends to drive the 'Trump is good on the economy' narrative, even while criticizing him.

Katie Tur, Chuck Todd, Steve Kornacke, Andrea Mitchell et al can similarly be annoying at times for both-siderism.

In contrast Velshi pounds away at bullshit and does the job a real journalist should do.
