is a hero? FFS!
In reality, he is a stupid boy who has been taken in by the ugly, racist, misogynistic, gun-loving rhetoric that has come out of Trump and his base for a very long time.
He drove across the border with his AR-15, all fired-up to "protect America," but he is so stupid that he shot three people and is now charged with first degree murder. Two or three years from now, he might actually go to trial for that. Maybe. More likely, he will be allowed to plead that charge down to simple manslaughter and spend almost no time in prison, because he's a young white guy and painfully stupid, to boot.
Meanwhile, the cop who fired seven bullets into the back of a black man who was just trying to get back into his car, has not been charged at all, and may never be.
Welcome to Donald Trump's America!

Hes already a hero to the right. The truth will come out eventually.
As I said in the other thread, besides the fact that juvenile records are sealed, the one thing about him disobeying a cop didnt ring true.
He was a cop wannabe. At least now he wont.

I couldnt tell what he was shooting at at that point. It appeared to be indiscriminate. Its a miracle there werent 10 people killed. Some hero. He had already subdued those pursuing him yet kept on shooting, like a lunatic.

I am not an expert but I believe this is a crime against the people of Wisconsin and not a federal crime that the US President can pardon.
Am I wrong?
aggiesal
(10,801 posts)It does become Federal Jurisdiction.
That's how I understand it.
So Pendejo45 may have the ability to pardon this idiot.
Growing up in NW Indiana, we learned quickly that the gangsters from the 1920's Chicago would come into Indiana and rob the banks there, then retreat back into Chicago.
Since Indiana authorities had no jurisdiction in Illinois, the FBI had to be called in.
Thanks for all the responses. I'm no expert and I love learning new things and information.
My recollection was just how I remembered it.
Right or wrong, I'm just glad that they caught the person that did the killing.
There were Federal crimes committed but I still believe this is a state crime as murder normally is.

MineralMan
(151,259 posts)While there could be a federal crime in there, regarding transporting across state lines, the murder charge is the one most likely to be brought, and that's a state offense.
The only federal law broken would be a transportation across state lines law.
IronLionZion
(51,267 posts)instead of federal charges like terrorism. Transporting the gun across state lines might be a separate federal charge but it's in Wisconsin's interest to keep the murder charge at the state level and out of Trump's control.
ProfessorGAC
(76,693 posts)I'm not sure the murder charge is federal.
The crossing of state lines to commit a felony might be a whole other charge.
But, he was charged with murder in a Wisconsin court.
stopdiggin
(15,462 posts)state and federal crimes do not preclude one another. (certainly in play here, as I'll bet this goes up as murder 1) And -- even back in the day, there was such a thing as extradition. While fleeing jurisdiction is a time honored criminal tactic -- it does not render the victimized state powerless. Frustrated perhaps. But saying that your jurisdiction does not have the resources to pursue something (as is often pleaded) is not at all the same thing as saying the laws are not there.
aggiesal
(10,801 posts)I updated my response to accept that I posted incorrect information, but that's how I remembered it and I stated that I'm no expert.
MineralMan
(151,259 posts)The shooting happened in the state of Wisconsin, so if he is convicted there, Trump can't do a damned thing about it.
However, I suspect that after a year or two, he'll be allowed to plead out on a lesser charge. He is a white boy, after all. Something like manslaughter of a low grade. Just my guess.
aggiesal
(10,801 posts)NutmegYankee
(16,478 posts)The state still proceeds with their charges. Crossing the state line just allows additional charges from the federal level. It's the concept of "separate sovereigns".

(43,307 posts)Local violent provocations -- either by police or militia white supremacists who take an unjust killing as their cue to show false power -- are an attempt at civil war momentum. Provocations are not indicative of real societal momentum.

Many for medical conditions (look at any prescription medicine for any serious condition and damn near all of them list urinary and sexual side effects), yes, some have mental or cognitive issues that prevent them from making close encounters, or rarely, e.g. some autistics, not sure these are the people progressive people should be demonizing.
Some have ethical issues too, yeah I'd like to have more sex myself, but I refuse for ethical reasons to do misogynist things like spewing a lot of smooth-talking bullshit and pretend to be a long-term relationship prospect in order to get laid and keep getting laid. Just a Golden Rule thing I guess.
