(675 posts)Republicans are so insanely confident that the polls are off by 20 or more points that they are joking that Biden should just concede the election now. Meanwhile, the Dems see their candidate up consistently by near double digits and think "oh my fucking God, vote! This is way too close! Anything can happen! Shit shit shit!".

noun: fear-mongering
the action of deliberately arousing public fear or alarm about a particular issue.
"his campaign for re-election was based on fearmongering and deception"

(5,969 posts)First, the stakes are just that high. It doesn't seem hyperbolic anymore to claim that democracy is at stake. Secondly, believing a win is almost guaranteed probably contributed to losing in 2016 with some staying home and idiots voting third party to feel good about themselves.
So there is absolutely nothing wrong about assuming that every single vote counts. I don't see a panic but just looking at how Covid was handled and how the Repubs are acting more and more as if the US is a dictatorship with no checks and balances should be reasons enough to take this very seriously.

(651 posts)or hacked vote I would not be concerned at all but..... seems I was overly confident that Hilary would be our next President in 2016 and look what happened. Even though she rightly won the popular vote!

(7,602 posts)so panicked that we won't dare vote. Any reasonable person watching Trump and his minions try to destroy our democracy should be a litlle bit panicked.

(25,048 posts)Do you have an example of "Democratic voters are in a near state of constant panic all of the time?" We just had a sober, intelligent, expressive and communicative national convention where we nominated a powerful team for the General Election. If there was panic, sorry, I missed it.
"Democratic voters are always a bit high strung bunch..." is a ludicrous statement. Once again, show us your evidence, please. Using the two conventions, I saw desperate, screaming, hyperbolic, mis-informed and purposeful lying by the GOP. The Democrats were calm, measured, direct and consistent.
Lastly, what gives you the impression that it's the Biden Team's strategy to keep "the anxiety cranked to 11..."?
Your premise is tremendously flawed and I'm confused about your reasons for posting it.

(26,257 posts)Figures. These people are getting desperate in trying any and all ways to sideline us/get us offtrack, etc. You can smell the stink coming off of them in their desperate efforts at trying any strategies/ploys unsubstantiated claims like this idiotic one. And calling us high strung? Overwhelming stress?
I'd say that they need to pull your post, kick you off. This is a site for democratically minded folks, to engage in friendly chit chat, and not mock others like you're doing here.

(31,904 posts)however my rule of thumb from before 2016 was that Democrats had to win by 5 % or more in the polling to have a chance at winning due to repuke cheating... but since the era of tRump... that margin is now at least 8% or more.
He just cheats on a grand scale... he has no interest in fixing the virus pandemic because he (or his team) figured out that this could work to his advantage.
This is why he downplays all of the protection measure (social distancing, masks) to his followers... so they will vote in person without regard to their own lives
This is why he falsely makes up stories about mail in ballots being fraudulent.
This is why his hand picked supporter wrecked the post office to prevent mail in ballots from arriving on time to be counted.
This is why his lawyers are bringing lawsuits in Iowa to keep 100,000 likely Democratic voters from using the mail in ballots sent to them (because they were pre-filled out with the name, address, and "pin" number of the voter).
I expect much more...
Plus, it doesn't help that we have protests that turn into riots and property destruction. Yes, I believe that the militias and boogaloo bois are in on creating the late night chaos after a peaceful protest... and I think the police have a hand in this as well... from not policing the rioters to actually encouraging the militias.
It is all part of the plan to turn an 11 point Biden polling lead into another electoral college victory by cheating for tRump.

(25,406 posts)the campaign wants us to be motivated, if that sometimes expresses itself as a panicky feeling, then so be it. I think a lot of us were (and may still be) shellshocked over the way things turned out in 2016.
You know that old saying, there are two ways to run for office, unopposed or scared.
Dr. Jack
(675 posts)I'm just wondering if the campaign wants people to worry about polls so they don't get complacent or maybe they don't. I don't see how that is a controversial question or if it would even be a bad idea to not try and sooth Dem voters by coming out and saying "it's ok, we are doing great, don't worry about it" to any Dem voter who is worried about the outcome of the election.
But I guess I sound like a MAGA head trump troll so I guess I'll just move on for the evening.
