Donald Trumps attempts to curtail mail-in voting by having his Postmaster General interfere with U.S. Post Office operations is having the unintended effect of filling the coffers of Democratic candidates who will be on the ballot in November.
According to a report from the Daily Beast, at least one hundred Democrats currently running for office have used the uproar over postal interruptions in their emails to supporters designed to rake in contributions and it is working.
Its hugeevery single client has been trying to capitalize on it, explained one Democratic strategist before adding, Its rare you get an issue where every candidate, whether theyre a Blue Dog or very liberal, is so aligned on this.

According to Democratic strategist Jared Leopold, Ive sat in dozens of focus groups of swing voters, and they care about core competency of government. This is a great proof point of something that is apolitical that Trump has politicized and screwed up
Its a reason why Democrats would go on offense about it.

(53,410 posts)The original Wells Fargo was a huge boost to the delivery of mail. They delivered mail much faster and made their reputation because of it.
Mail is practically sacrosanct to us. Even the advent of the internet hasnt destroyed it. And Trump certainly wont destroy it, but it may destroy him.

(13,870 posts)The simplified version of how Mussolini came to power in Italy was "He made the trains run on time."
The country was so dysfunctional and with an unworkable political stalemate that people were just looking for competence, and were willing to put up with Il Duce if he could make the everyday parts of society function.
This is an argument I have been using (and I don't get a lot of pushback from even the most delusional Trump fans) - How can Trump screw up the Post Office? Why doesn't he make things like FEMA work (i.e., Puerto Rico and CA fires) and the FDA and CDC, etc etc

(6,828 posts)Never would have dreamed it possible back in the 24-7 "her e-mails"/"Bengazi" days. Camels lay broken-backed all across our great nation literally COVERED in straws.
But it's Sunday afternoon and I'm sure most have imbibed their quantity of courage and the mail's still broken.

(19,201 posts)his cult is getting hurt by it as well, and if there's one thing that might sway a few of them into the blue side of the ledger, it's getting their KKK newsletter late every week.

(4,465 posts)And it was a spectacularly bad time to pull it. If they'd waited until September to start doing this stuff, there wouldn't have been time to call it out, publicize it and plant a flag - it's a gift to anybody willing to take advantage of it, calling them out for doing that to the USPS. That's what shocks me the most about it.
Also, the dipshits didn't think everybody uses the Post Office, not just Democratic voters in general elections. I know they've wanted to kill the Post Office since Reagan, but how freakin' bad a strategist do you have to be, to choose this summer, when people are relying on the Postal Service more than ever, to try to screw it up?
the dems (and us) need to HAMMER them with this
it hits the rural population hard (where a lot of the gop base is)
About the only other thing he could have done to piss them off more would have been to attack the public roads
As an aside - its painful to watch the stupid gop rural idiots crying about gov when they SOOOOO benefit from the public projects like the post office, roads, etc Privatize that and none of them would be able to afford to live like they do.

(9,117 posts)I dont think enough politicians and consultants realize just how important the Postal Service is not only to veterans, the homebound, and the elderly but to the millions of Americans who operate small home businesses.
Donnie is a fool for alienating them. Many of these small businessmen would be forced to shut down their businesses and driven into destitution if the Postal Service was destroyed. These small businessmen are not usually Democratic voters, but Donnies plan to gut the Postal Service threatens to ruin their livelihoods.
Privatizing the Postal Service may sound ducky for multi-billionaires and libertarian ideologies but it spells ruin for small businesses across the US.
