GOP Convention Backfires As Trump Approval Drops With Republicans
https://www.politicususa.com/2020/08/30/trump-approval-drops-with-republicans.html
A new poll reveals that Donald Trumps GOP convention hurt his approval rating among Republican voters.
ABC News reported on the new ABC News/IPSOS Poll:
Less than one-third (31%) of the country has a favorable view of the president in the days after he accepted the Republican nomination for the second time a stagnant reality for Trump. His favorability rating stood at 32% in the last poll, taken a week earlier, right after the Democratic National Convention.
..
Among Democrats, too, Bidens favorability climbed seven points after his convention showing signs that hes solidified support among his base . But Trumps favorability dipped slightly by four points among Republicans in the newest survey.
Trumps overall favorability is at 31% with 59% holding an unfavorable view of the president. Joe Biden has a net positive approval rating of 46%-40%.
It takes a lot for a candidate to hold a political convention and lose support with members of his own party, Biden gained support during his convention and his number have stayed up. Trump is the rare candidate whose numbers tend to go down the more he is in the media.

(65,031 posts)30% is what I believe the cult support floor. So, we start at 30, not zero.
Then, some Rs & I's not happy about Trump. But, they still fear minorities and Biden is attached to "that black guy who was president". I can see that sentiment causing another 10% to disapprove. Stupid, but probable.
What gets me is Biden's favor ability at 46. There are 14% of people who don't know if they approve of him or not?
Think of the PR value if that ratio was 60:40

59 minus 31 gives dumpie an 28% net NEGATIVE approval rating.Biden has a positive approval rating.
ie: 65 - 25 equals 40
Numbers can be confusing to us all and I probably am confused, but I believe thats what the author meant.

(30,613 posts)That's pretty good news.
To clarify how arithmetic works:
31% - 59% = -28%
46% - 40% = +6%

Basically in an ideal world - the bastard is fucked.
But he knows that in the real world:
Young voters don't care about politics
You can disenfranchise voters
Your friendly Russian Hacker will fuck around with election systems and command an army of bots on social media to drive division and hatred
So we have to fight on multiple fronts ..its just not a clash of ideas anymore.
This is probably the last gasp for right wing nutjobs ..and trust me they will do everything they can to stay on in power.

(6,827 posts)538 had Biden 73-27 last week and now he's 69-31. And they say his chance of winning is only slightly better than Trump's. Sunday PM positivity does not make me feel better about it. This thing is FAR from secure. I'd say we need 20% to overcome the mail sabotage alone. And when I subtract 31 from 69, I get 38. If 20 points is no show because of the mail, that's only 18 dwindling points remaining that separate us from disaster. In swing states it could easily create electoral mayhem.
Happy to set your mind at ease, however.

(1,261 posts)He's a doer, not a talking and strong leader and, of course, the Economy. Oh and what has Biden ever done? At least that what I've heard most often. Specifics are usually missing or some vague hemming and hawing, usually about the economy or some of his promises (which he hasn't kept).

(5,499 posts)These next two months will be interesting. He needs to try to do something to get positive attention. I look for him to agree with the Democrats latest proposal for covid relief part 2. He'll want checks getting to people before election day. If he doesn't get a bill agreed to this week, it might be hard to deliver before November.
Of course he'll try to take credit for it.

(18,634 posts)Seems to me that polls saying Biden's support is dropping are improbable.
This would mean a substantial number of people are still thinking, "Hmmm. Biden or Trump? Which should I vote for?"
I seriously doubt there are many people who haven't made their minds up.
Either you are a rabid Trump supporter or you vote for Biden, (or don't vote)

Not to mention what he'll do if the vote appears to be nearly, maybe, almost close. He has shredded checks and balances. He has no shame about hurting other people including his own. Winning is the ONLY score that matters to him...And to McConnell, Burr, DeVos, Kavanaugh, and all the other enablers who are empowered by Trump.

Trumps alternate-reality bounce
If a spree of Sunday-morning retweets are anything to go by, however, Trump is a believer in the bounce and in the ABC/Ipsos results being an outlier. The president boosted tweets and analysis from right-wing Twitter account @PollWatch2020 more than twenty times, including polls from the Democracy Institute and the Trafalgar Group showing him winning nationally and in key swing states.
Theres plenty of reason to be doubtful of those numbers, though: The Trafalgar Group gets a C- in FiveThirtyEights pollster ratings, and the Democracy Institute isnt even listed.
Also of concern is the fact both groups numbers fly in the face of just about everything else out there in Michigan, for example, Bidens average lead stands at 7.1 percentage points, and that includes the Trafalgar poll that shows Trump winning. In fact, Trafalgar has the only FiveThirtyEight-recognized poll this month to show Trump winning by any margin in the state.
This isnt the first time Trump has rejected reality as presented by reputable pollsters:
But trying to quash polls that dont look good for your campaign isnt a great reelection strategy, especially when most of the polls are in consistent agreement. In the key swing states of Arizona, Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, Biden still retains a lead, one mirrored in national polls.

(12 posts)Answer back to Fox News
For about a month now, I have been writing comments about the various news stories on the Fox News website. Sometimes I will have up to 8 different fox news stories open on my screen and reply to each with different counterpoints, often a number of them on the same story over the course of an hour or two. Its actually rather fun and satisfying .being able to get your say in with these people.
This way, I can post dozens of attention getting posts that the fox followers will read, often with interesting feedback from them, as you can well imagine. Surprisingly, there are a substantial number of us Democratic types that post on there, or that rate the comments. (Ive had up to 12 likes for a post). In actuality though, the foxers outnumber the normals by 8 to 1? Or more? Our correct side needs more troops over there to help educate them about the truth.
Over time, Ive had to delete my account and change usernames when Fox catches on, or someone complains. I think this has happened when I post too much too quickly, perhaps and also when I get down on Fox directly, so be a little circumspect. At a certain point, Fox will keep showing you your posts, but no one else will see them. You will know this when no one reacts to them, or you can do as I do, and go to your incognito page and see if your posts show up or not on fox there.. Its a pretty easy get around though, just delete your account, keep the same url, and create a new account with a new user name.
Please try and keep things civil. Witty if possible, and try to avoid insults. Were here to convince Fox people who are often woefully ignorant of the truth. Educate them.
I dont believe youre supposed to cut and paste, but I do successfullyIts actually kind of fun, (addicting?) to post, and I think it may actually do a lot of good, as a lot of fox readers arent necessarily commited Trump cultists and may be on the fence.
Below is an example of what I post.

Trumps deep thoughts:
1- why dont we just drop a nuke in the eye of a hurricane to stop it?
2- the Revolutionary Army took over the airports in the 1700s
3- the new clean coal mine is going to take out the coal and actually clean it so itll be clean coal.
4- the F-35s are invisible. They cant fight against them. The enemy can be right next to one and they cant fight because theyre stealth....its literally invisible.
5- Puerto Rico is surrounded by water, big water, ocean water.
6- water is wet....from the standpoint of water.
7- they say the noise from those big windmills causes cancer.
8- disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute. Is there a way we can do that....by injection, almost a cleaning. It sounds interesting to me.
9- Isnt Finland a part of Russia?
10- the map came to me with that sharpie drawing on it.
11. Andrew Jackson should have stopped the Civil War. (He died 16 years prior)
12. Trump said he had never heard of a Category 5 Hurricane even though he had already experienced three in his presidency.
13. When I was hearing the amount of people that died with the flu, I was shocked to hear it I would have said, Does anybody die of the flu? I didnt know people died from the flu.
Fact check: Trumps grandfather died of the flu.
14. "We have it totally under control. Its one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. Its going to be just fine.
Trumps mean girl name calling is surely getting old.

(19,066 posts)Yes, they are totally made up and fake. But he's been in a different mode for a while right now, he doesn't expect to win so he's trying to steal it. These polls he's now Tweeting about are not valid at all and their purpose is not to help him generate excitement to win the election. This is about legitimacy, Trump is going to steal the election and wants to appear legitimate, so he'll need fake polls to back up his theft of our Democracy.
