In most states, mail in votes are counted first, not last. My state starts counting mail in ballots several weeks prior to the election. They key is to submit mail in ballots as early as possible so they arrive before the election. Then they will be counted first in most states.

in South Florida. I was planning on voting by mail but I don't trust our desperate president. However, we have paper ballots here so I feel comfortable with my choice. I believe those who vote by machine will be just as vulnerable as those who vote by mail, if not more vulnerable to cyber security issues. At least successfully voting by mail will leave a paper trail.
The Trump experience has taught us that our democracy has many vulnerabilities. We need to make election security a top priority and we need to be able to hold the president accountable.
