Past vaccine disasters show why rushing a coronavirus vaccine now would be 'colossally stupid'

'colossally stupid'
On April 12, 1955 the government announced the first vaccine to protect kids against polio. Within days, labs had made thousands of lots of the vaccine. Batches made by one company, Cutter Labs, accidentally contained live polio virus and it caused an outbreak.
More than 200,000 children got the polio vaccine, but within days the government had to abandon the program.

any drug or medication should never be rushed.

The human body is incredibly complex and still poorly understood in so many ways.

The vaccine had been tested on hundreds of thousands of kids over a 2-3 year period. It wasn't inadequate testing that was the problem... nor did they really "abandon the program" (that same vaccine went on to general use). What happened was that some batches of the vaccine were screwed up and contained live virus.

... other countries have worked decent enough where their "spikes" aren't uncontrolled outbreaks.

I'm pretty sure that once it was determined that the one lab had screwed up, they resumed with vaccines from another lab.

I remember standing with a very large group of people in a field to get my first polio shot.

America fucks up the vaccine, China gets it right and the virus continues to depress the American economy while China continues to rise, America is left behind in the world (as predicted by elites at least since 11 years ago) and to add insult to injury, we are treated like leper’s by the rest of the world. The legacy of the idiotic Teabaggers and Fox News.
