Old Navy to pay store employees who work as poll workers on Election Day

Old Navy, the clothing store owned by Gap Inc. GPS, +0.28%, said Tuesday it will pay store employees who serve as poll workers on Election Day in November. The company is encouraging its 50,000 employees to apply for the roles, it said in a statement.

"In an election year that has the potential to attract a historic turnout, Old Navy is working in partnership with the Civic Alliance and Power the Polls in a national movement to recruit 250,000 new poll workers to ensure polling sites stay open and operate efficiently across the country on November 3," said the statement.

Store workers will be given eight hours of pay and will also be eligible for payment from their local jurisdiction.

Gap shares were down 1.1% premarket, and have fallen 1.6% in the year through Monday, while the S&P 500 SPX, +0.25% has gained 8%.

7. What GREAT news! I know how badly we need all hands on deck.

In Texas I make around $10 an hr so if Old Navy is paying too then they can some nice change if they work.
The great part of it is that I may only have to work 8 hrs and not the usual 14 hour day.
