Gov. Cuomo: 'He's not 'king. He can't "defund" NYC'

Andrew Cuomo @NY 10h
President Trump has actively sought to punish NYC since day one.

He let COVID ambush New York.

He refuses to provide funds that states and cities MUST receive to recover.

It's an illegal stunt.

2. We in New York should stage a Federal tax strike. Send our Federal taxes to the state.

We need the money, it's our money, and we don't get anything back from the Federal government.

See how the Federal government does without its cash cow.

3. Yup, my thoughts exactly. You don't fund us. We help fund you and your poor ass "red states".

So how about we, Cali, ect keep our money and what have you. I know this flies against how the country works but this is what they want then fuck em.

edit: Yes I know, not everybody in those areas is batshit insane and I don't really want to do that, but its getting a bit annoying how much shit we have to eat from the rethugs and their death kkkult when they consistently run their states into the ground.

He does not have that power and as long as the Democrats control the House, he is completely out of luck. It is time for us to dominate all three branches of government come November. It is the only way we will have a functioning democracy again.

7. Add to this collection of persecuting NY and other blue states:

1. Trump and his republican cohorts in Congress capped the exemption of state and local property taxes to $10,000 for IRS filing purposes. Most taxpayers pay more than $10,000 a year in these states. They knew it would impact these residents/taxpayers.

2. With the extra revenue garnered from effectively raising the federal taxes on blue state taxpayers, that money is given generously to red states. It doesn't return to the blue states.

3. Tax cuts for the wealthy; tax increases for the blue states.

4. So Trump wants to de-fund New York State. With the loss of revenue, there will be predictable job cuts among the public sector and tax increases demanded. Less police, less fire fighters, less court personnel, less sanitation workers, etc.

Tell me this isn't persecution.

9. Trump withheld funds for Covid testing

Top Democrats say Trump is sitting on $14B for coronavirus testing, contact tracing
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/top-democrats-say-trump-sitting-14-billion-coronavirus-testing-contact-n1231688

The Trump administration has been sitting on nearly $14 billion in funding that Congress passed for coronavirus testing and contact tracing

...

Effectively, it was a decision to kill more Americans for his political ends.

So de-funding New York and other cities is more of the same. Americans can suffer for the whims of what he thinks helps him politically.

10. Was this a tweet from the Governor's office? I trust you, bigtree, but I hope we don't start

including a "summary of important statements"-- without the actual tweet or a link to the statement. Given all that is going on right now, it is just too easy for someone to manipulate.

(and yes, I know some don't like embedded tweets... but better to both embed AND include the text of the tweet than one or the other, I think)

or his court flunkies rubber stamp it, or the DOJ ignores or endorses it.

We have a system that is completely vulnerable to authoritarianism. It's not a great government system, to be honest. We thought we had real checks and balances, but it was mostly just informal agreements to behave. If you have the courts and the DOJ, you can make yourself dictator, EASILY.
