It is illegal to vote more than once, everywhere.
But Trump is not just being an idiot here. He's encouraging people to go stand in line and clog up the polls with people who can't legally vote in the hopes that he can block legitimate voters from getting to the polls easily. This means more artificially increased wait times intended to discourage voters.
Anything that suppresses the votes tends to favor Repubs.

And anyone who mails in their vote and THEN goes to the polling place anyway - may not be that bright.
Well - they are trumpers...

(145,086 posts)I was in the voter protection war room and an election judge called me and asked if trying to vote twice was against the law. A trump supporter insisted that he had the right to vote twice. We had a room full of lawyers and fed the election judge with the provision of the Texas Election Code that made it a crime to vote twice. This idiot was arrested and this arrest made the Washington Post https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/12/01/0-000002-percent-of-all-the-ballots-cast-in-the-2016-election-were-fraudulent/
BTW, his second vote was not registered. The mere attempt to vote twice was a crime

(3,268 posts)I don't like to pretend to knowledge I don't have but you might clarify for me, is there an actual conspiracy or accessory charge that might apply to his actions?

(53,764 posts)leads to vote fraud like he's been saying all along. That maybe the election should be voided (only if he loses of course).

(297,119 posts)Intentionally voting more than once in a federal election is a third-degree felony in most states and probably also violates federal election-fraud laws. The punishment varies from state to state but is usually up to five or 10 years in jail and fine of up to $5,000 or $10,000. (Source: Cracking down on

(64,988 posts)First, you're presuming a strategy. There is no evidence of any strategic thought in this administration, nor his prior fraudulent businesses.
Second, the mail-in & absentee voting will be massively greater than prior elections. So, polling places will, in many cases, be underloaded.
Third, those same "cloggers" would have been there under normal circumstances. So, they are not increasing the load on polling places. Only a small % voted by mail in 2016.
Overall voter turnout, live, will be lower & not slow things beyond what was normal, and given the pandemic, likely much leaner.
So, I'm not buying it.
He's just blathering, again, about things he knows nothing about.

I thought it might be to prove there's "fraud" or some shit.
Yours is a solid point.. but he also gets his voters in serous trouble.. so did they really think this through?

(1,997 posts)that anyone caught trying to vote twice will have neither vote counted, and could be prosecuted for a felony.
They need to repeat this clearly, and often. Even if just those in Democratic areas go on the record, the message will get out there and make people second guess the idea of voting twice.
