Death by de-funding.
Wipe out Social Security by making it insolvent. Bankrupt it. The GOP's plan for the past 80+ years.
Social Security is one of the most successful retirement financial security plans in HUMAN HISTORY.
Other nations have modeled their retirement security plans off of SS.
Which is why the GOP has spent the past 80+ years trying to kill it.
Trump is actively working to gut and kill SS.
Regarding voters that actually show up to vote, the elderly are typically the most reliable.
Democrats, campaign on the fact that Trump is secretly trying to kill SS by de-funding it into bankruptcy.
Our party will be rewarded with votes.
We're talking about bringing in the 5-10% of votes required to swing elections our way.
Win it with Social Security by telling the truth.

(732 posts)death of SS for my entire life. Worse yet, I personally know several people who have no idea how it works. I swear they believe that there is an account held in their name that has all their contributions in it that has been earning interest. I also know of people who believe that it's a law that you get social security, not something you earn like credits at a college. So they don't know there monies went to support their parents, nor do they understand that you have to work X years to earn it (excluding specific situations, disability, surviving spouse etc.).
I am saying it's the boy who cried wolf with as side of total ignorance on the side. Falling on deaf ears who don't understand the system.
Yes I have tried to explain it, but no, just tired myself out.

(6,070 posts)...if a POTUS with near-dictatorial powers wants it dead and gone, it could actually happen.

(758 posts)I'm with you in that too much disinformation had muddled the conversation.
Democrats have a real opportunity here to educate voters and bring votes our way.

(9,263 posts)Voters who vote. Arizona is in my book, out of trumps reach. As the message gets thru, Florida will be out of reach, and a real chance to win Texas. Trumps play was fir a generational voting war between under 55 and over 55 old voters. He made a huge mistake. So the excuses will be coming he never said what he said.

(758 posts)Imagine if Texas swings blue, we'd wreck the f-ing GOP.
Az and Fla are equally important, but imagine our party stealing Texas..
Glad you joined in the debate..

(8,678 posts)I am counting on Social Security for most of my retirement. Without it I am screwed. Furthermore I have paid into SS a ton of money over my 40 years of working. I cannot imagine losing all that.

(9,263 posts)to all of us to be sure this is a well known fact with ALL Americans 55 yrs old and older. Of course this will impact the younger people even more as now they will have to take Mom and Dad in and support them and pay for their medical cost. The US Healthcare system will also collapse when Medicare ends as that is a 40%+ part of their GUARANTEED revenue stream. When this dawns on Healthcare providers, doctors and nurses, they may have something to ay about it too
This issue is a gift to be made use of as THE ELECTION ISSUE with the 55 and older crowd

(23,339 posts)They won't connect it with Social Security or Medicare. If they do, it'll only affect young people, not those already receiving Social Security, right? They'll assume Social Security will continue without that tax.
They'll also think that they'll save money if there's no more Payroll Taxes, even if they no longer work and no longer pay these taxes.
I mean, it's a tax cut, right?
Free money for me.
