'I don't get it': Trump questioned why retired Gen. John Kelly's son gave his life fighting in Afgha

President Donald Trump questioned a Marine's sacrifice during a Memorial Day visit to his grave with the man's father, The Atlantic reported Thursday.

"I don't get it. What was in it for them?" Trump reportedly asked retired Marine Corps Gen. John Kelly, his former chief of staff, as the two stood beside 1st Lt. Robert Kelly's grave at Arlington National Cemetery in 2017.

A retired four-star general and one of Kelly's friends said that Trump "can't fathom the idea of doing something for someone other than himself."

The White House responded to The Atlantic story almost immediately, criticizing it as "just another anonymously sourced story meant to tear down a Commander-in-Chief who loves our military."

President Donald Trump openly questioned a young Marine's sacrifice during a Memorial Day visit to Arlington National Cemetery with his father, retired Marine Corps Gen. John Kelly, who served as the president's former chief of staff, The Atlantic reported Thursday, citing multiple sources.

if he never said it, there is no reason for Kelly to not flatly deny it.

Same with Tillerson with his "moron" comment, McMaster with his "kindergarten" comment, and an endless supply of others. if it was never said, there is no one with cell phone audio proving you wrong, or any other evidence to the contrary. Just say I don't know where you got that information, but it's not true.

Yet they never do this. The either hide from the question, or dance around it.

is waning, apparently - it hasn't waned enough yet, but a strong statement from Kelly would affect it, for sure.

There is likely no one revelation and no one person who could single-handedly destroy his reelection - except maybe an assassin - and I do not want that and I don't think anyone here does either.

I watched young men like Kelly die in Afghanistan and I pieced together even more that were blown to pieces and their lives completely shattered as a result. I have no words to describe what a lowlife Trump is for that statement.

It was the "mutual agreement" BS. It was announced that he was "leaving at the end of the month". Regardless, actually being fired by trump would only provide more proof of what I said.

I wonder if you look at trumps net worth; his REAL net worth. Where was it when his dad died? And how did it progress AFTER he passed away? Without dad's money & constant help, I'd bet his value dropped as the years passed.

he knew Trump was a deviant, a conman, a stupid depraved narcissistic sociopath but he agreed with the racial, ethnic, and xenophobic hate Trump was spewing... Kelly stood with Trump before his son's grave and listened to Trump devalue his son's sacrifice, measuring the loss of his child in dollars and cents and Kelly said nothing, did nothing,...and in fact, he became Trump's babysitter, his minder ...so I say please honor Kelly's son but do not shed a tear for John Kelly...

Btw that fear of disfigurement, death, seeing any kind of human weakness and honoring a sacrifice—that’s the fear the narcissism is constructed to protect him from. Push this hard enough and he’s going to break. Look for a rise in the madness to reassure himself he’s mighty.

He can pretend otherwise sometimes, probably with the help of his aides, but his core personality is exposed periodically.

I still think he could start a nuclear war and not care as long as he gets shelter with his main squeeze, Ivanka. (Who is half-him, so that's probably appealing to that sicko!)
