I feel so sad that the parents, children, spouses, siblings had to hear that.
It is hard enough for relatives of those who give their lives in war, to live after their loved ones have died.
I come from it from the perspective of a child who lost his dad to the Vietnam War. I remember growing up and seeing other kids at events with their dads wishing that that could be me also. I remember on my wedding day how I wished my dad could have been there to see it. I remember on the day I announced I was running for US Congress, how proud my dad might have been. And I remember on the birth of my grand children what awe and joy he could have had. He died when he was 38 years old.
I can only give you my individual perspective on this:
I am one of the lucky ones tho, I learned how to cope and adapt and also it wasn't my spouse or child. Can you imagine the pain that a spouse or parent goes through.
No one and I mean no one who has lost a relative this way or anyone who has been maimed physically or mentally because of war needs to hear this selfish, self aggrandizing, heartless asshole of a president spout that shit.
As an American citizen I apologize to those who have lost loved ones to the service our country ... we as citizens have to do better and elect some one who wishes to serve our nation instead of taking from it.
