Washington Post confirms Atlantic story, adds that Trump didn't think US should rescue soldiers MIA

A former senior administration official confirmed to The Washington Post that the president frequently made disparaging comments about veterans and soldiers missing in action, referring to them at times as “losers.”

In one account, the president told senior advisers that he didn’t understand why the U.S. government placed such value on finding soldiers missing in action because they had performed poorly and gotten caught and deserved what they got, according to a person familiar with the discussion.

Trump believed people who served in the Vietnam War must be “losers” because they hadn’t gotten out of it, according to a person familiar with the comments. Trump also complained bitterly to then-Chief of Staff John F. Kelly that he didn’t understand why Kelly and others in the military treated McCain, who had been imprisoned and tortured during the Vietnam War, with such reverence. “Isn’t he kind of a loser?” Trump asked, according to the person familiar with Trump’s comments.

My tech skills are limited. No Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. I've never posted a link in my many years here at DU. I communicate here on a worn out I-pad. I went mostly dormant in DU General Discussion during Obama's eight years and expect to do so again after Joe is firmly in place.

I'll be checking in GD from time to time, and will browse the other forums here. DU has some of the brightest minds on the planet. Their informed contributions to its forums has been very helpful to me over the years.

I have greatly valued the information you have provided to this board as well as your friendship. My respect for you will continue throughout my days, though my level of participation here may drop a bit.

Well, glad I mentioned it 'cause I respect & value your friendship, too, oasis.

I Hope we will be so Lucky to get Biden & Harris in our WH. Looks like we signed up around the same time.. I got my computer just so I could join DU.. had no clue how to work it, but slowly and surely I learned.

I left for 2 years in 2010 though and went to The Obama Diary.. where they respected & cataloged his years in the White House. So I learned about what was happening there that the m$m wouldn't show.

DU does have brilliant minds & I've learned a lot over the years, too.. Super Cathartic.. Aloha!

Trump is done. There aren't enough Putin-bots and Trump-lickers to turn this avalanche of vile shit around. There is so much pleading desperation in the denials of the Trump-humpers regarding this that it's almost laughable. They know he is done, too.

But there's a reason polling reported recently in Military Times shows Biden with a slight lead.

The active-duty military can't be expected to talk on social media about it, but the fact that so many officers and soldiers were supporting Biden means they've noticed his many deficits: abandonment of our allies the Kurds, not to mention not condemning Russia for placing a bounty on the heads of American troops.

It will make a difference for many conservatives who might otherwise have voted for him.

I always had, and still do, great respect for his service.

The fact that McCain survived his ordeal and went on to become a US Senator made him a stronger, better man than Trump could ever hope to be. And Trump knows that. It's why he disparaged McCain so much that he even continued fighting his ghost long after he died.

What a pathetic loser Trump is.

My brother served in the Marines, Viet Nam, three years. He never talked much about his experiences. It could not have been good. My cousin served in the Army in Nam, he too, could have been injured or captured, instead he received two Purple Hearts. He never, never talked about it, he just drank himself to death to kill the emotional pain

FUCK TRUMP. He would have pissed and shit himself the first time a drill sargent yelled "Line Up"
