(34,661 posts)at this very minute on Bloomberg discussing these issues. Yes,this is preventable.
As someone who owned Rental Properties during a Economic downturn,we know first hand how that works or what to expect. BTW,empty housing units is more costly than having a renter living in it free or damn near free.

(5,518 posts)Why shotgun it to everyone whether or not they were hurt or not? My income has thankfully not been impacted but yet I got the same check as the people who were devastated.
I get that there was a goal for overall fairness in doing it that way but it sort of missed the point of targeting the need.
I think the boost to unemployment was a better way to target those in need. But even that missed some people who wouldn't necessarily fall under traditional unemployment.
More needs to be done ASAP

(68,456 posts)this is why I remain lukewarm towards her. It is not 'congress' but the Senate and Trump who are preventing help for the American people.

GOP Senators, pledging allegiance to Mitch McConnell, have intentionally sat on this bill & did nothing."

CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield signed a declaration determining that the evictions of tenants could be detrimental to public health control measures to slow the spread of SARS-Cov-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

(5,518 posts)But as always, those most in need are the one that actually spend the stimulus immediately.
For those who remained employed, it was extra money at a time when there was almost nothing to spend extra money on.
From a purely stimulative point, someone in need who got more would have circulated it into the economy immediately.
No easy answers.
And I agree that AOC sometimes directs her energy at the wrong, or at least imprecise, targets.

But it still took months to get my check

(68,456 posts)The Democrats got what they could but it was insufficient...and giving every American money is a great way to stimulate the economy and would work if we had a president with half a brain who could deal with the virus. Clearly, Trump is brainless.

(67,782 posts)....have no financial worries.
It should have gone to people who were out of work and needed the money more than us. I wound up giving a good part of it to our local FoodShare food bank.

(36,421 posts)Mismanagement from the top, from the beginning. I don't think people thought he could do so much damage. And it's just gonna get worse. And if he loses, expect him to take a sledge hammer to anything he hasn't touched between November through January. And Barr and McConnell will give him all the help he needs.
If we don't give Joe Biden a democratically controlled Congress then he will be limited how much he can get done. He can clean up the DOJ & reverse a lot of the Con's EOs, but if McConnell is still majority leader, legislation will backlog just like now & judicial nominations will come to a stop.
We're in it deep, that's for sure.
And we must vote like our lives depends on it in the midterms as well. We as a party should have had Obama's back in 10. We would be in a better place had we done that and also... in 14.

He has a plan, he isn't just talking about it or tweeting about it.
Thank you!
