The bestest weirdest phone banking session in my experience.

Confessions of a veteran phonebanker, my craziest session ever.
I've been phonebanking for 11 weeks now as some of you know. Absolutely had the wildest yet best session in over twenty years last night. Started chaoticly as the person who emailed me links did it late and was unknown to me. As I went through the 100 or so emails for yesterday I couldn't pick it out from all the others asking for money or to do a survey. Anyhow I started 15 minutes late.
Right off the bat I get my undecided voter an 82 year old woman waiting for the debates. She tells me Biden has never accomplished anything. I tell her I'm not there to argue and bow out.
Next call I get a 65 year old guy that let's me introduce myself, says I'm a registered Republican but I'm leaning Biden I'll talk to you. I start talking, the canned stuff that tells the mission and the line goes dead. I say to myself guy didn't really want to talk. I check the box on report that says lean Biden then start to fill in notes section to report. I am about to send it when my phone rings. It is the dude I thought hung up on me. He assures me he was listening but phone went dead, he didn't hang up and called me back as soon as he could. I said well what I was saying is it is time for me to shut up and hear what's important to you. The guy says to sum up I think of the meme that goes elect a clown expect a circus. I reply I've seen that one. He then spends around 14 minutes telling me chapter and verse the stuff Trump has done or said. I interject once or twice but let him talk. At some point he throws in that he's about to retire and Trump is trying to kill Social Security. he also says asking voters to vote twice thing really burned him. That was something three other Republicans mentioned during shift. He then says the hypocrite sent he and wife application for mail in ballot. I then said well have I convinced you even though I haven't said much. He replied I guess I convinced myself huh? I chuckled and said that is first time that has ever happened to me. He replied I think that's the only time someone let me talk.
All in all a very good night those are just two stories. Many were uplifting. Including a woman who returned a call this morning my wife fielded that, the lady said she was all in but wanted to thank me for my effort This is in red Hillsdale and Branch county Mi. Interesting times my friends.

The call my wife took this morning lifted hers. She's a bit of a pessimist. Really was an exceptional night. Will be doing at least two shifts a week up until the event. Actually have a couple people who asked me to call them back from time to time. That is really heartwarming to me and has not happened in over 20 years of doing this. People need people.

I phonebanked from California on the morning of November 8, 2016. I showed up at 500am Pacific, was trained for an hour and then got on the phone from 6am Pacific onwards.

Interestingly, our entire call center was calling Michigan numbers on Election Day morning. My three-hour stint was relatively uneventful. However, near the end of our shift, the fellow sitting next me was in shell-shock. Whomever he had called in Michigan apparently chewed the hell out of him, screaming about "what a crook Hillary is" and that "she needs to be in jail." These were ostensibly Democratic voters.

It only after Election Day 2016 that we all realized what had happened: so many of the people we had been talking to that day and in 2016 were the targets of Russian dis-information/interference that Trump and his hench-idiots so willingly participated in.

I am going to do phonebanking this Sunday, and I truly hope the experience is going to go well. I think it will!

Obamas election being one. With a smaller audience just two counties now. I say I'm just calling my neighbors. I find that more productive. I have been challenged by some when I say neighbors. They really want to know who they are talking to.

I cant do phone banking. I'm extremely introverted and I truly hate talking to people I dont know.

I would rather be shot than cold call someone.

Love it/Hate it!

I started my very first political campaign doing this. We had 2 weeks to beat back the Phelps clan. We were up and organized by the seat of our pants and had outside people from a national group fly in to help us since we did not know much about doing a campaign.

By the time we were done I was volunteer staff working 15 hours a day sometimes. I ended up getting very good at phone banking and was teaching the basics soon after.

Of all the things I have done I think that may be the most difficult and often just grueling job of all but also one of the most effective. I have worked so many campaigns doing it and am calling myself retired from it for now.

I love your story. I loved those kinds of calls. I had one woman call me back because her husband took the phone from her and told me that she would vote how he told her and then told me and my ****** friends to go to hell. Since I was on my private phone she called me back and we had a nice talk. Amazing to me how many times I heard that story both phone banking and going door to door. In some areas and families women still need the privacy of that booth and the courage to think that he will not figure out she did not vote how he told her to vote.

I am always interested in stories from phone banking. What I actually remember most was trying to sleep on a sore ear. Seriously, way to go. I am sending ear comfort vibes to you. I wish I had had a set of soft earphones back then.

So many heartwarming stories. Two instances where they were having their own crises. They just needed someone to talk to. I was glad I got their numbers. I think they were also.

once you introduce yourself and ask if they have a moment. Just hit a couple main points. Then ask them their concerns. I am sure if I ran the script I would get less feedback. But I'm pretty good at winging it. I'm sure some can't My goal is not to read to them. When I do interject it has to come from the heart make it personal.
