Some of you are already aware of this white Jewish woman who has been passing as Black for at least a decade. If you don't already know the story, Google her name.
Interesting, isn't it?
I am not remotely surprised she did something like this. When she was a senior at the Barstow School, she was my carpool girl, meaning I drove her to and from school every day, along with my own kids, as she only lived a mile or so from me. Her mom had a job that made driving Jessie to and from school highly inconvenient, there was only one car in the family, and I was quite glad to help out.
Jessie was a piece of work. She was always on guard, ready to fight or defend something or another. I remember when she wanted to burn a flag on the Barstow campus, and the school said No. This is a private institution, your "grievance" has nothing to do with us, so don't even think about it.
She was more or less expelled from the school at the very end of her senior year. She'd submitted something to the school literary magazine something she had not written herself. The editors didn't catch it, but when it was printed and distributed to the students, several immediately recognized her piece as being plagiarized. Perhaps had she been an otherwise model student, she'd have been forgiven, but she'd already burned a lot of bridges. The school administration told her to clear out her locker and not come back. They would mail her diploma to her.
Again, I know this because I was driving her to and from school.
I always sort of wondered what happened to her. Now I know. And I do hope GWU double-checks her PhD, even though they will be letting her go. I honestly wonder if that's valid.
The sad thing here is that she really is an incredibly intelligent person. Were she not so willing to be deceptive she could be so much more. But she really has created this whole thing on her own.
Oh, and I would not believe for one minute her claim of childhood and teenage abuse and trauma. I knew her from when she started at Barstow in the 8th grade, through her leaving at the very end of 12th grade. And while I do know families and individuals can hide such things, I'm not buying it in her case. I knew her mother far too well to believe any such claims.

(3,332 posts)I hope she finds her identity. She should start with a good bowl of matzo ball soup! Of course, not only her Jewish identity, but her life purpose.

(34,857 posts)Her lie, that she told to cover those questioning her blackness, was that her mother was raped by a white man.
I read her real dad's obituary. I honestly felt sick about that.
