Trump now risks losing one of his most widely touted and strongest reservoirs of support heading into the 2020 election: the active-duty and veteran community.
Part of the growing divide between the president and the military he leads is fundamental. The military has long prided itself on being a professional organization in the truest sense of the word, a group “governed by codes of ethic, a professed commitment to competence, integrity and morality…and the promotion of the public good within their expert domain.” The military prioritizes placing service before self, with leaders putting the well-being of those they lead before their own personal comfort. Trump’s use of incendiary language, routine threats to deploy the military for domestic peacekeeping, and harsh language towards veterans like former Senator John McCain—while playing well to his base—alienates many of the very men and women Trump claims are on his side.
Heading into the November election, President Trump has a tough challenge on his hands. He needs to hold together his current coalition, while also working to rebuild bridges with the military and veteran community.
Failure to understand the military—and the set of professional ethics which underpins the community—risks driving this incredibly important group further away from Trump and into the waiting arms of Biden.

Joe and Kamala will expose each layer of contempt Drumph has. The campaign has had Trump on his platform shoes heels every day of the campaign. There’s so much truth to talk. Biden is the anti-Trump. This has been turned into Memorial Day. Their message is simple and true. Losers and suckers are how Drump sees everyone that’s not in the Mob. Rules, service and faith are for people not in their scheme.
