Trump fixates on the promise of a vaccine -- real or not -- as key to reelection bid

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/trump-vaccine-election/2020/09/05/c0da86d6-edf5-11ea-99a1-71343d03bc29_story.html

President Trump is so fixated on finding a vaccine for the novel coronavirus that in meetings about the U.S. pandemic response, little else captures his attention, according to administration officials.

Trump has pressed health officials to speed up the vaccine timeline and urged them to deliver one by the end of the year. He has peppered them with questions about the development status and mass-distribution plans. And, in recent days, he has told some advisers and aides that a vaccine may arrive by Nov. 1, which just happens to be two days before the presidential election.

Trump’s desire to deliver a vaccine — or at least convince the public that one is very near — by the time voters decide whether to elect him to a second term is in part a campaign gambit to improve his standing with an electorate that overwhelmingly disapproves of his management of the pandemic.

“We remain on track to deliver a vaccine before the end of the year and maybe even before November 1st,” Trump told reporters at a Friday news conference. “We think we can probably have it some time during the month of October.”

A safe and effective vaccine is virtually impossible this year. It may not be possible EVER.

Magical thinking—product of an advanced Cluster B-disordered brain. It would be tedious and boring if it weren’t so dangerous.

Nobody in their right mind is going to trust any vaccine he is pushing before the election. We all know it is a desperate, last-chance ploy to win the election.

Let the MAGAts go first, and we'll wait to see how well it works for them, while the rest of us continue to social distance and wear masks. At best it will be useless and at worst it will be harmful.

6. Reality isn't important. They are going to convince people that it has happened

Whether people take it or not doesn’t matter. Getting the word out that it’s here or near is what they’ll do. I expect everything to be flooded with it in October. If you watched how fast that 6% thing spread, it will be like that.

They will know that it's just a cynical ploy to win him votes. It's already out there that this is part of his strategy. His base is stupid enough to fall for it, but they don't believe that COVID is a real thing anyway, and the rest of us trust him and his minions about as far as we can throw them.

Like the Facebook strategy in Wisconsin Michigan Pennsylvania etc in 2016.

They’ll believe if they see enough.

"I find it hard to believe that very many of us will be able to overcome almost four years of . . . distrust, disbelief, skepticism and cynicism . . . to believe anything that comes out of this White House."

"Anyone who takes a vaccine that has been rushed due to political pressure is insane. It will be a cold day in hell before I play guinea pig for political purposes."

"Trump's desire to brand a vaccine as a triumph of his presidency is a key reason I won't have anything to do with it until it's cleared legitimate scientific testing protocols, which isn't going to happen until well after his toadies have been cleaned out of the CDC, DHHS, and FDA."

I just don't think people are as gullible or as willing to fall for his bullshit this time around.

Be rushed past trails and into production...period!

And, rightly so, can you imagine the law suits they would suffer from a rushed vaccine?!

he lost the vote in 2016. He knows that there's absolutely no hope for him. There was no hope for him
in 2016 and there's no hope for him now. And this isn't the end of his sorry tale, not by a long shot.
