https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/515335-mccarthy-told-trump-trashing-mail-in-voting-will-hurt-republicans-report?ampHouse Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) reportedly said he told President Trump that criticism of mail-in voting will hurt Republicans in the upcoming election.
"I tried to show him ... you know who is most afraid of COVID? Seniors. And if they're not going to go vote, period, we're screwed," McCarthy told an Axios reporter, according to a report published Sunday.
The top House Republican told the outlet that he spent hours warning the president that his preoccupation with slamming mail-in voting will not only him but also Republicans running for Congress.

(10,828 posts)Wilson who has worked a slew of GOP campaigns said emphatically that mail-in balloting has been the 'secret sauce' in the GOP's election success in Florida. Traditionally, 4 to 5 to 6 months in advance, the GOP has worked on scooping up and enticing GOP voters to vote-by-mail, baking in that early-vote advantage. In contrast, Dems have traditionally relied on the in-person, day-of-the-election vote to beat the drums on voter participation.
The Republicans have managed to succeed with their prime strategy more often than not.
So McCarthy's warnings seem on the mark. Let's hope Trump and his enablers continue to play deaf to the historical markers.
Because they so deserve to be wiped out!

(24,407 posts)You don't have to be a political mastermind to know that trashing and working to intentionally undermine an American institution that, despite decreased use due to technology, is still an integral part of our national infrastructure, especially during a global pandemic where some people's ability to vote may depend on being able to use it, might be a bad idea.
