I've had several, none of which cost more than $500.

Second, poor boat operators belong to all political parties. That I can guarantee.

One only has to sit at a boat launch ramp for an hour or two on a busy weekend to observe just how unfamiliar a sizable portion of boat owners are with their boats and how to operate them properly and safely.

It's not a matter of politics, really. It's a matter of whether or not a boat owner has taken the time to learn how to do those things.

The boat launch ramp follies are highly entertaining. I recommend spending a couple of hours watching. It's hilarious.

sink a fully restored, candy apple red, GTO convertible trying to trailer a jet ski. He got the jet ski on the trailer but hadn’t set the emergency brake. The car started to slide but stopped with just the back bumper in the water. He couldn’t get enough traction to get up the ramp. A friend of mine with a truck offered to tie off to him to keep him from going further in but he declined. That was about the time a 60ft shrimp boat headed out. The wake from the boat lifted the back end of the car and it with the trailer still attached with jet ski loaded slid all the way under. I’m pretty sure there was ample alcohol involved.

Many a boat has been launched onto the dry ramp, as well. My favorite funny thing, though, is the guys who get their boat off the trailer and then drive off to park their vehicle and trailer, but forget to tie the boat to the dock. When they get back to the launch ramp, their boat has floated off and they have to beg a ride from someone else at the boat dock to get to their boat.

A million things can go wrong at the launch ramp, but only if you don't do the launch correctly. If you do, nothing goes wrong, and you get to enjoy your outing. If a little alcohol is also involved, things can get downright hilarious.

The worst thing is that incompetence at boat launching and retrieval slows everyone else down while you attempt to undo what you have not done correctly. That often leads to people getting angry because they are unnecessarily delayed. I have seen fist fights at the launch ramp, which slowed things down even more.

Even worse, those who can't get their boat launched smoothly and efficiently get really mad if you offer to help. They're embarrassed and react badly to offers of help. Again, that slows things down even more.

It's a live-action cartoon on a typical Saturday or Sunday on most lakes. I'm lucky. I work for myself, so I can go out during the week, when the boat launch is uncrowded.

No, you weren't listening closely--he said "own a SHIP" society.....he wanted to help the people who owned the yachts...and he did!
