(7,804 posts)and "chucks" were cheap...they didn't have women's sizes so we wore small guy sizes..my grandchildren discovered "chucks" in middle school...they're in college now...still wear them...apparently they are the required cool footwear if you want to get thrown into a pool...go figure!

(10,961 posts)Red Chuck hi tops were my high school go-tos, along with black checkerboard Vans.
Now I do slip-on Chucks, because Vans dont make wide width slips.

(31,261 posts)When I arrived to Middle School, Converse All Stars were the rave. But they cost a lot more than $5.99. If a kid didnt wear a pair of All Stars in my school, the kid was shunned. The cool kids wore the all white ones with double strings and kept them spotless. Less cool kids like me had the black and white ones with single strings.

(31,261 posts)When I wore the shoes in PE and sports in Middle School, everyone taped their ankles and wore low tops. One kid who was a center wore high tops, but he also taped his ankles.

They had a resurgence in the 1950s and have been popular again this century.

(24,872 posts)On an aside it's kind of why I workout, run, do yard work, in plain white tee shirts (bought in bulk) with either grey or dark blue boxer type short sweats or khaki shorts. I still don't want to look like I give a shit because I don't. Eventually though I will go full on beach bum.
I like KH a lot. I have high hopes for the USA because of her and Biden.

"We don't know much about her, so how she looks will be important, particularly to women," says Alison Lurie, the Cornell University English professor who wrote the popular history, "The Language of Clothes."

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a watchdog group, has filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission against Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican National Committee and several political operatives, alleging they violated campaign finance laws after improperly spending nearly $150,000 on a high-end fashion shopping spree in September at Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Barneys New York and Macys to wardrobe the Republican vice presidential candidate and her family."
HRC, and I'm not even going to cite anything, cause we all remember the whining about the pantsuits.

I have small Fred Flintstone feet, size 6, but theyre as wide as theyre long, toes are all the same length. Unisex Chucks are a perfect closed shoe for me. And I always get compliments whenever I wear them.
Go Kamala! I fall in love with her more each passing day!

(17,085 posts)Converse's iconic Chuck Taylor shoes aren't just for people who want to look cool for a decent price. They might also be the unofficial athletic shoe of U.S. Naval Special Warfare.
High-top or low, these longtime staples of American fashion are also the shoe of choice for Navy SEALs who need functional sneakers at sea, on land or in close-quarters combat. Teamguys are actually issued clean pairs of all-black Chucks for use in maritime operations. Some choose to wear them on land missions.
Not only do the SEALs get to take down some of the world's worst bad guys, but they also get to look old school cool while doing it.
The reason is in the sneaker's design. A pair of Chucks doesn't add any bulk to the foot and the flat soles means better balance and stability with a more equal distribution of your weight. And as anyone who's sported a pair of Chucks knows, there's not a lot of arch support, so you can feel the boat, the sand or whatever else is underneath your feet.

(128,372 posts)(and had to be black with the star on the side) and yes I had some too - in the mid-'70s along with Pro-Keds. Then "Starsky and Hutch" came out and you had to have Adidas...
Then that transitioned to Nike ("swoop" ). Then to Pumas. Then I kinda lost track (I know New Balance was in there)...
Then the regular Keds came back - Bobos they make your feet feel fine, bobos, they cost a dollar-ninety-nine...
(of course Keds are like $40 for canvas ones nowadays... )

(19,558 posts)I wear them all the time. They're my go to casual, daily show. I have the in high top, low top and an array of colors and prints. My main pair are the exact ones she's wearing here, which I've seen her wear before. They're a classic to we Chuck's fans.
Also, that black Tahitian pearl necklace she wears. I have one and I wear it out whenever I have to go somewhere now. It's my silent hat tip to our amazing VP pick!
