Republican House Leader Says Trump Is Screwing The GOP


House Republican Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said that the GOP could lose the 2020 election due to Trump’s fight against mail-in voting.

Axios reported:

We could lose based on that,” McCarthy (R-Calif.) told me at a diner in Salt Lake City last week, during a campaign swing that began in the Pacific Northwest. McCarthy said the party can’t afford for Republicans to sit home, afraid of getting COVID-19, while Democrats flood the field with mail-in ballots.

McCarthy is particularly worried about deterring senior citizens.

McCarthy said he’s spent hours telling Trump that this preoccupation will hurt the President’s own re-election, as well as Republicans running for Congress.

“I tried to show him … you know who is most afraid of COVID? Seniors. And if they’re not going to go vote, period, we’re screwed,” McCarthy told me.

Republicans have been sounding the alarm for months that Trump’s efforts to deter mail-in voting were backfiring on the party. Democrats and Independents aren’t listening to Trump, but his most devoted supporters are reading the President’s message loud and clear.

Before Trump, the Republican Party spent decades promoting voting by mail, but they are watching Trump burn their advantage to the ground, as he is more concerned with providing himself an excuse for losing the election than he is promoting a constructive effort to get more votes.

Trump is hollowing out the Republican Party, and if he loses to Joe Biden, it will just be the beginning of their problems.

6. Rural voters are being hurt due to problems with postal service.

NBC News did a detailed article about how rural people are being hurt by recent changes at the Post Office. They depend on the Postal Service for things that we don’t, like live baby chicks for farms and other perishable items that we can normally pick up at a supermarket. They also depend on it to get payments and pay bills. They get medicine via the Postal Service and that is suffering delays. Polling places in their areas are being closed because those places used to be staffed by 65 year old plus residents, so they will need to drive a distance to vote or mail in their vote.

Like everything that he touches, Trump is shooting himself in the foot (which is a good thing).

by Election Day the numbers will be very bad, both in terms of total deaths and surging cases. Seniors who were talked out of voting by mail by Trump could very well wake up on Tuesday morning and decide that their one vote isn’t worth the risk.

It could cost them any chance of holding the Senate.

The fact that McCarthy “spent hours talking” to Trump about this, obviously getting nowhere, is another sign of Trump’s demented mind.

even if it means we have to wear a hazmat suit.

We will vote by mail early, and if we can drop off the ballot at a drop box, we will. Otherwise we will vote by mail, early, and keep track of our ballot. As a last resort we will show up early at the polls, bring snacks, a lightweight folding stool, something to read/watch, and stay there until we can vote. We WILL vote.

I believe democratic party seniors have a little more motivation to vote.

I frankly don't give a fuck about any senior that would vote for the turd. May their obstacles be too great to overcome. Republicans in the House acted like ignorant buffoons during the impeachment hearings, then Senate Republicans stuck their heads in the sand and refused even to look at evidence. Either they were too afraid of Trump’s tweets or too afraid of the compromat Putin gave him on all of the leaders to make a move. The Russians hacked the RNC servers also, but nothing was ever released. My guess is that whatever was on those servers that could be used against members of Congress was given to Trump to help him keep them in line. There’s a reason Lindsey Graham went from calling Trump a kook to licking his shoes.

So now Republicans can reap what they sowed. They had their chance and blew it.

I don't know how they got my number into their database. I've been a registered D for years. But, I keep getting text messages from a GOP group encouraging me to request my mail-in ballot. They use messaging like: "Do your patriotic duty and request a mail-in ballot by clicking here." or "President Trump needs your help. click here to request your ballot."
